sm57 proxinity effect

Was curios how many of you actually stick the 57 up agaonst the grill. i see many poctures people here upload where the 57 is really close.but for me' if i put the mic closer then 3 inch all i get is low mids masking everything.. I dial the amp so it sounds good in the room. but all the mic captures is the low stuff.

what do ya think?

I tend to pull mine a few inches back, sounds better to my ears and means I can pair the 57 up with another mic like a SM7 or something (as with alot of bigger mic's it's impossible to get the capsule right up against the grill)

i find it really good somewhere at 3 inch back. i see ola put his mic on his clips just on the gril, and it sounds rocking though
