I acquired some new valves today (Well, yesterday now) which meant, of course, that I had no choice but to do a shootout. The valves that I originally had in my preamp were JJ ECC803s. The new acquisitions were unlabelled Shuguang valves, which according to some portion of the mighty internet have been identified as the "marketingly named" "9th Gen" variation.
The preamp is a high gain preamp of my own design. The valves that were exchanged were those in the "V1" and "V2" positions (Just the gain stages. The cathode follower remained with a JJ ECC803.)
Details:
For the DIs I used Brandon E's EMG shootout DIs (9V) and seeing as I don't currently have a suitable cab+mic, the preamp signal went into Ryan's s-pres8 impulse. (Thanks both

Signal chain:
Brandon E's EMG shootout DIs (9V) -> USB connected PODxt set to "Send clean guitar" (Due to the lack of a Reamp box) -> TS9 (808 modded) -> High Gain Preamp -> Boss DI-1 -> Audiobox USB -> DAW
Post processing:
Shuguangs lowered by -0.75dB.
Gclip (+9.5dB, Clip 100%, Softness 0%, Oversampling selected)
Gclip (+9.5dB, Clip 100%, Softness 0%, Oversampling selected)
The "Old" ECC803s were a year old and I thought I'd just put some new ones into the shootout as well for the sake of comparison.
The preamp settings are irrelevant and were not chosen with the aim of getting a decent tone for a pair of lonely guitar tracks.
