hey guys,

i recently changed my live setup over to a rack based direct solution....just going straight to foh, that's it.
however, i'm thinking about adding a small poweramp to the setup in case i happen to play a venue with such a crappy pa system (esp stage monitoring) that hearing myself without a blasting backline is pretty much impossible....does happen every once in a while.

now, i remember reading about a really small and lightweight poweramp solution....really portable, no 19" stuff just a small gigbag no larger than a book for example. anyone happen to know what i'm talking about and how that thing was called?
the alternative would be a rocktron velocity or something similar, but then again that's 1HE plus added weight to the rack, not sure if i'm digging that as right now my setup is super slinky and convenient.

that thing is quite nice, a friend of mine used it as a backup with his iphone...
Saw them playing a show, PA wasn't great and his amp had a tube failure, so
he just used is iphone with Jam Up, hooked it up to that thing, used the same
marshall cab as before.
He used a Peavey 6505 before, after 3 songs, iPhone with the 44W Magnum
and many people didn't even get that there was a difference...
There was a little decrease in tone quality and not as much bass and not as
tight, but god damn, for a little 44W solid state poweramp and an iPhone it was
ridiclious ;)

wow that's cool! thanks a lot!

my main sound would still come from the direct signal, this is just meant to drive a 412 cab to get some additional stage volume so i'm not that dependent on stage monitors and foh crackheads -.-

yeah, as a vocalist that is quite a serious problem...played a few shows where I wasn't able to even hear my own voice.

Spielt mal in Tübingen (mit Retaliation)... einen passenden Opener gibts auf jedenfall ;)

I have both EHX caliber 22 and AMT Tube Cake. First one is too harsh, but AMT... i use it for home practice for a year, only good experience

I cannot say enough good things about my Carvin BX500. Might be a little larger than you want. It is like a large book.

The FX return is pre graphic EQ and it does go through a switchable tube circuit for some extra mojo. 500w and 5 lbs. Rackmountable if needed later.

But in general check out bass amps. Ampeg and TC make some really small and powerful ones. Using the FX returns, they are just clean poweramps.

For other small amps, google for class T amps. But they are typically for cars.

I have heard those EVH 44's are pretty damn loud. Also if you can find a Crate Powerblock, they are pretty cool too.

I have a Crate Powerblock that does exactly what you're looking for however, the various Class D and Tripath chip implementations of today (such as the myriad tiny bass amplifiers from T.C., Gallien-Krueger, hell even Behringer) will deliver a lot more power from a comparatively sized package.

I got one of the EHX magnum 44's. I gig with it all the time. I had planned on just using it for rehearsals and as a backup but it's good enough sounding for me to gig with it. Super loud, it goes way above the volume you'd ever need. It starts to break up near halfway but I've never needed it anywhere near that. I use an AMT s-1 for my dirty tone and a Joyo American sound for the cleans.

I have both a el34 loaded 100watt tube poweramp and a stereo SS poweramp I can use but the Magnum wins out. It's so convenient and it sounds almost as good as the tube poweramp and better than the other SS one.

It also blows peoples mind on quite a regular basis when I show them my setup.

You can hear mine in this clip. It's the washburn guitar
