hmm, so Nad yesterday tells me about some Kanye West album review that's been going around.
Not sure if this is the one, but for sure it's one of the few 5 star reviews I have ever seen in RS:
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/reviews/album/45342/232350 (watch the video at the end of the page too)

I hate this dude but i listened to most of the album and its pretty freaking brilliant. A rare mix of flawless flow and almost hallucinatory melodies ... crazy stuff.
Would really be curious to see those of you that normally don't listen to hip hop what you make of this as there are so many musical elements woven together here.

and if you have 30 minutes to kill ... check out this video on his homepage. www.kanyewest.com ... its some sort of "film" that puts together most tracks off the album in some weird mix.

Bitchfork gave it a 10/10. It also got glowing reviews from other "elitist" sites such as Tinymixtapes, Coke Machine Glow, Sputnikmusic, etc. (I believe this is the first Rolling Stone review I've seen that didn't award an album 3.5 stars.)

I'd almost hesitate to call MBDTF hiphop, though Yeezy spits on this one like never before. The knock against him was always his MC skills. No more. I believe we are witnessing something on the scale of "Thriller" or "Purple Rain." The most famous/notorious figure in pop music at the top of his game, with the eyes of the world upon him, and the motherfucker releases his masterpiece. Enjoy it, marvel at it.... because it's not something that happens often.

But yeah. It's as good as everyone says it is. It's one of those albums that you want to hear again immediately once it ends. "Monster" is off the goddamn chain.

Lurch, you'd probably like his other albums. "Graduation" especially (his most similar to MBDTF). [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJQymQvTukI&feature=related[/ame]

AOTY, obviously.

I agree with everything here ... :loco: ... it really does have an epic vibe that I have not heard in decades.

it feels amazingly underground and a world topping masterpieces at the same time. (that hipster comment he made in the RS video is right on)

I always liked his videos for old songs as they were unique, but ill stick to swallowing this album up for now.

Monster is just that ... you're right.

This kid is definitely disturbed though :loco:

It's been the 'feature album' on the hipster station we listen to at work, so I've been hearing a song an hour for the last week also. Good thing is they play every song, but they do favour 2 or 3 yes. Namely Gorgeous, Runaway and POWER. Asummedly the same three beein' played frequently over yonder.

'Skip-hop', anyone?
