Why?

It was $28 and it is over 3 months due.

I REALLY don't want to work with the band again.

It means the band still owes him money. You shouldn't have done that, man. I understand that you wanna be done witht he band, but I think you should have just held onto the song until they decided to fianlly pay you. If they can't be bothered to pay 28 bucks for a song then their music obviously don't mean much to them.

What is the hassle? "You guys owe me $28 and until you pay me there is no song for you".

Then whenever they send the money, you send the song.

Both situations have the same amount of worrying-about, but one of them has $28 more dollars...

Pretty much what 006 said. I don't want to get into details as it's unpro to do so, but the $28 was worth the "you need to fuck off from this point on." Only I'm not that much of a dick.
