Yes, yes, I know the mouths thing and other anime staples are definitely easy to mock, but the stories are what really count, and to those hating on DBZ in favor of the original Dragon Ball (or anything else), while I haven't seen the original and I'm not saying it's bad, DBZ has Vegeta for chrissakes, one of the most complex and fascinating characters; his development, and especially his relationship with his son, Trunks (the future version, anyway), is really well-done and powerful IMO; especially in the end of the Cell Games saga, Vegeta's character goes through such a massive and believable change - as I said, more than anything else, it's the characters that make the show. Also, the fact that Piccolo changed his evil ways by training Gohan, the son of his arch-rival Goku, and his death in the Saiyan saga where he confides that Gohan is the only friend he's ever had, damn...
As I said, it's far from perfect, and if you focus on the negative things (ENDLESS powering-up sequences, 5 in-show minutes spanning like 6 episodes, on/off mouths, etc.) then yeah, it's easy to make fun of - but I've watched/read/played/etc. a whole lot of stories in my life, and none connect me to the characters in the way DBZ does!
