And he said he was @ the Blind Guardian // SX show @ Bluebird Theater I belive was the venue.

We were discussing metal for a while, SX's name came up, and he didnt like them for this reason.

He said they were drunk off their asses, and Russ actually FELL OFF the stage mid song, and then SX stopped the song itself mid-song.

It didnt seem right comming from SX, but I just have to know!

Is he lying?

Maybe their was a band that played before them that he got them confused with.

are you deducing that just because Blind Guardian is German, they're more likely to have been totally drunk? :)

anyway i've seen it before and been surprised. i saw savatage once and they played a great set..everybody had it together and their guitar player was kicking ass!! it was a festival, and some time after their set (i honestly can't say how long) i saw sav's guitarist sitting up on a ledge (kinda high up...his feet were dangling around 3.5 feet above the ground, if not more) and he was trashed!! a girl asked for his autograph and a kiss, so he leant over to kiss her on the cheek, and fell off the ledge...real hard!! he could barely stand up after that, and he got very agoraphobic all of a sudden and had to be escorted off. i remember he kept saying agressively..."somebody get this man a shirt!!" lol.. it was very Fear and Loathing in las vegas style if you ask me

i wonder if he played that great set so shitfaced..i remember not being able to understand how he could be so drunk so shortly after the performancel.

It's very common these days for bands to have hollographic images projected onstage during shows to keep up their public images while the actual band members are off carrousing backstage or at the bar down the street.

I get the impression that the person who told you these lies was drunk or getting there at the show and may have misinterpreted some of the stuff that Symph X does live. For instance, he may have heard the part during Wicked live where they pause for quite a while before Russ's triumphant vocal lead-in and thought that they stopped the song because they couldn't go on. Either way, this guy should think before he speaks.
