so people, any new bands on the scene worth mentioning?

Sgt D, I like the power metal stuff also. That Lost Horizon disc kicks ass. That guy has a voice second to none. Have you checked out the new Helloween disc yet? I just got it, so I'm just now getting in to it. Hammerfall is great if you have not checked them out. I think Lost Horizon have a new album out. But I have not seen it anywhere. I ordered Luca Turilla off of amazon his last two albums, I have Kings of the Nortic Twilight and it rules. Rhapsody is another good one. I'll have to check out Sonata Arctica.

"Hey Sgt.D.! You like euro-clone metal??

I can see you thinking that Gamma Ray are Helloween clones, after all, the Kai Hansen thing, but Sonata Arctica??? I disagree. With the rest, they **DO** have that influence, which is slightly obvious, but they're not "clones." (Certainly NOT Therion... I can't think of any band that sounds like that! Same w/Fates...)

BTW, the other bands you mentioned (Nevermore, Destiny's End, Helstar, Jag Panzer, etc.) do, in fact, kick ass. But even with some of them, their influences shine quite bright. I hear a shitload of Maiden in Jag Panzer...

BTW, Primal Fear aren't Helloween clones, they're Priest clones! ;)

I agree w/ you on Therion and Fates... I have Primal Fear cd's Black Sun and Nuclear Fire (?) so even though I bitched about clone metal, I listen to some of it! :)

I don't dig them being called "clone Metal," but it's cool that you have your opinion on them. I, for one, hear something other than Helloween & BG when I hear them, but hey, that's me. I'm a sucker for "sword metal." (that's what another one of my buds calls those bands...). I dunno. I do hear Priest totally on PF, but I can't stop listening to Black Sun! It just kicks too much ass... I will have to DL some Cauldron Born, to check 'em out...

Also, yes, HammerFall is the fucking shit, Cincy. I first heard them right after their first album, when the campus radio station at UW-0 played "The Dragon Lies Bleeding." The song made my hair stand on end. Fuckin' wicked.

Oh yeah, Onward kicks ass, too.

They're not a new band, but I'm really into the Shadows Fall video that's been on Headbanger's Ball every week.
Must...buy...that...album....
