So what?

After WWII, I believe we were in Germany fighting 'insurgents' for 7 years.

Yes, but we handled it in a much different manner...we killed them all and anyone associated with them. Now we have meetings with them to try and bribe them into stop killing us.

Very little actual fighting continued in Germany at the close of the war. Additionally, Germany was divided into four main sectors, the US controlled the Southern region, which by and large was the least effected by the entire war and spawned very little resistance, let alone something resembling a legitimate insurgency. Most US troops were, to their great consternation, shipped to the Pacific theater in relatively short-order.
By as early as 1949, the respective east/west governments were largely in place and fully and officially "denazified."(though officially not allowed to function as independant govt. entities until 1955)

While there may have been very sporadic dust-ups on a very small scale, this ended rather quickly after the surrender. Even the most dedicated SS personnel were more interested in staying alive, or avoiding capture(both going hand in hand)than still fighting the lost-cause...and the rest of Germany, what was left of it in many areas, had more than its fill of warfare.
