SKINLAB: Ex-Guitarist Says STEEV Has No Appreciation For Musicians Who Bleed For His Band - Apr. 26, 2004

Former SKINLAB guitarist Scott Sargeant has slammed SKINLAB frontman Steev Esquivel over Steev's recent comments regarding Sargeant's departure from the group, stating that Esquivel has "once again disrespected and belittled the people who wrote the songs to get him where he is today."

In a written statement sent exclusively to BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Sargeant said, "First off, I know there is a lot of SKINLAB haters and fans that read and post their opinions on this site and that's all good. One of the great things about being an individual is having and voicing your own opinions. People that know me know I'm a big believer in voicing your own opinion. Granted, it may piss people off... and it has… but it's not like I expect everyone to love whatever band I'm playing in.

"Recently, Steev has posted [a statement announcing] the departure of [drummer] Paul Hopkins and myself from SKINLAB. And of course, in true Steev-lab fashion, he has once again disrespected and belittled the people who wrote the songs to get him where he is today (which is not that far, by the way).

"The reason I'm writing this is for peace of mind and also to let the people out there know that he is not the sole strength of SKINLAB like he thinks he is. Guys like Mike Roberts, Adam Albright, Gary Wendt, Brian Reagen, Snake, Glenn Telford, Paul Hopkins and myself contributed and bled for that band, as well as a few other musicians that filled in at various times through out the years. I know you're thinking, 'Who are those dudes?' One thing that is key in having a solid outfit is loyalty to your band members. And the word 'solid' is the last thing SKINLAB has ever been.

"I know there's tons of guitar players and drummers out there. But just because you can play doesn't mean you can write. I hate the fact that I have to say and write this shit, but in the same breath, I can't stand people that take from others with no regard [for] their contributions. I wish it didn't come to this, but it has. I just hope one day Steev will realize it takes more than one to be in a band. He has a great talent of writing and singing, just no appreciation or loyalty to the other members that bleed for the him and the band.

"I have since re-located to Austin, Texas where I'm starting a new band as well as giving guitar lessons. If anyone would like to talk shit or get in touch with me, just email me at scoeyz@hotmail.com."

Uh Yeah, HL posted it a few days ago.
