Hey i plug my external hard drive into my mac and nothing happens its not coming up im running osx 10.2.8 but it will open fine on my laptop running vista, im stumped anyone have any idea why its not working?

Not sure what kind of port (FW/USB?), but have you tried it in other ports and/or other stuff in the ports?
Also, not sure how it is with such an old system, but could it be the file system format?

Its a usb port and yeh ive tried switching them round etc, also it shows in disk utility and says not mounted, i try and mount it but it wont let me :S

Did some research, apparently 10.2 can't read ntfs (and no version can write on them, not sure about 10.5 though). So, make sure your HD is formatted to fat, if you want to use it on both operating systems.

I have had trouble using external HDs between Mac and PC before also. What happened to me was I was using the external HD to transfer files to the PC from the mac. However, the HD was formated to mac only, so when I plugged it into the PC, it would recognize that it was there, but would not read any of the files.
You may want to check if that is the issue. Only thing I can think of right now.

pete: start by backing up everything on the disc that you want to keep, then right-click the drive in explorer and chose format.
