after writing thrash and speed metal for 3 years, I now find myself in a hard rock band. This isn't a step down for me, as i've been wanting to do this for a while now. the problem is it's really hard for me to write riffs that are so simple and slow. it's like in metalocalypse when they try to play blues. how does one write 'dumber' music?

Edit: i know i misspelled the title

this is the kind of thing I'm trying to do.

I'm having a hard time switching from pentatonics to diatonics without it sounding obvious.

no i mean without it being obvious that i was just playing pentatonics, and now i'm palying natural minor scales, oh now i'm back to pentatonic, ah there's a minor 6, so he's back to the diatonic, etc.

Or dont.

This type of stuff i find easier to write. All i can suggest is listening for more stoner and hard rock bands really. Itll all come naturally though.

I am working on a small project with The Rev from Hospital of Death and its a stoner band. Took about a week to write haha. Thats just a demo there of one of the song. Recording it all pretty soon me thinks.
