Been listening to this a lot as of late. Now READ and UNDERSTAND this; In my Opinion(did you get that) I'll say it again "In my Opinion." This record, simply put is, CRUSHING. Like a Viking hammer to the skull. Fron the first note to the last, Immortal does'nt ease up a bit. Abbath's guitar is like sonic razors and Horgh's drumming will pummel you into complete submission. For this style of music, I don't know if any band does it better. In the heart of Immortal beats "heavy" metal. Although, SOND has a black metal atmosphere. Discuss.:heh:

Yeah, it's a great album, but for their later stuff, At the Heart of Winter is their best in my opinion. Beyond the North Waves is fucking epic and I love In My Kingdom Cold.

Yup In the Heart of Winter, is superb!

Despite being unintentionally (...?) hilarious, Immortal are excellent. Older albums are great too, of course, but SOND was definitely their tightest and best-sounding output. The title track is brutal, I love it, heh.

BTW, Immortal does sound a whole lot better when you listen to them in a snowstorm. :D

I have to get some of those Immortal photos, especially like Opethian's 666, on surfboards. Fuckin' hilarious. Anyone got a link where I can find some?

Immortal's entire discography is relentlessly good. They are a fantastic and unique band. Fantastic for they do, I can't fault them.

Excellent and highly recommended to anyone who wants to get into Black Metal. :kickass:

Yeah Horgh is an incredible and underrated drummer !

Sons of Northern Darkness and At The Heart of Winter are two Black Metal Materpieces !

They overdid the make up/weapons/black metal clothing though.

Tyrants !!

As a drummer, I think Horgh is pretty average actually. Has good chops, but who doesn't in metal these days. SOND benefits greatly from a good production job. I can play a good deal of that album excluding some of the fastest parts. The intro to the title track is rather easy. Horgh was really unimpressive live with Hypocrisy as well.

Of course, the drums on PH were rather sloppy, and Horgh is better than that.
