I always liked the sound samples in some Morbid Angel, Obituary, and Sepultura albums. I love the intro for Morbid Angel's Immortal Rites and how they added the sound of a bell in Obituary's Slowly We Rot. I love the synthesizers and violins in Sepultura's Schizophrenia album. But obviously, it's a problem when bands rely on just sound samples. Thoughts?

It can sound awesome when bands put soundclips from old films, tv shows etc.. in, or clips of themselves and the like.

December Wolves - Blasterpiece Theater, is full of cool old movie soundclips. The intro track to Vital Remains - Dechristianize is awesome, as are the samples in Carcass - Necroticism. Agoraphobic Nosebleed have loads of cool samples and clips as well, I'm mainly thinking of their "Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope" album.

I found this fucking site once that had a search where you could search any song or band and it would tell you what samples they used and where they came from...but I fucking lost it.

I think samples can be a valid part of the overall artistic statement. It takes just as much creativity to choose the right sample as to choose the right notes. The clip from 'Jacob's Ladder' at the beggining of 'Each Individual Voice' by As The Sun Sets is one of the coolest, scarriest album openers I've ever heard, and I think it's an important part of the overall experience. Of course, bands that throw 20 second clips from Texas Chainsaw Massacre onto 15 second songs and call it an album are really pushing my tolerance. At some point, it becomes more of a comedy album.
