One of my instructors says the Aphex Tubessence is one of the better cheap preamps, but I haven't used it. It's out of production so you'd have to check ebay or something

You might wanna check out that Art pro channel. It's only one channel, but you could nail a vocal track with it. The comp works pretty good on vox, and the eq is worth the total price. There's another channel, I haven't used, from Presonus. Pretty similar to the Art, with comp and eq. That SP pre would go good with an RNC though.
What does everyone think of the TL Audio ivory series? Been wondering what they're like for the money.

I bought some Trident S80 channel strips on ebay a little while ago and they sound great. If you're on a real budget MCI JH strips work well.
