SPOILERS!Damnation is leaked!

It's not an argument, it's actually pointing out to people they are over exited elitist morons trying to seem special

So in effect it's not an argument as far as I see it, but rather a bunch of people trying to justify their childishness when really they know that what they are trying to do is just seem self important and fill their hollow empty useless lives.

Well, I'm an overexcited elitist moron then, cause I'm gonna get a few songs when it leaks, probably the whole thing. But, like with Deliverance, I'm gonna buy it the day of its release.

Sorry. But I don't think you or any other of your ilk really understand the following concept:

To make money to support them writing music artists SELL albums and get ROYALTIES whick keeps them ALIVE and able to PRODUCE more MUSIC for you to listen to.

Now, here is the following scenario: Dipshit kid downloads whole album and decides he doesn't need to buy it afterwards because he already has it. Does the band profit from this? Does their hard work go rewarded? No.

In my opinion, and I really dare anyone to challenge this without sounding like some over elitist that must get one over on everyone else to make their lives seem interesting, special and worthwhile by getting albums before they are out.

1)You download an entire album before it's release then you spoil it. Don't you want to be surprised? Don't you want to pour over the artwork while listening to it? Don't you want that feeling of going home from the store, or waiting for the mailorder package to arrive of anticipation?

2)Not everyone, but a large percentage of people will not buy the album after downloading it. You can argue with a holier than thou halo above your head that you will buy iy, honest, swear on my mother's grave, but how many albums have you downloaded and not bought?

3)Have you ever got pissed of by people analyzing their leaked copy of the album and ruining the whole thing for everyone else, not to mention telling everyone to fuck of for discussing the album when it comes out as it's already been discussed? Elitist motherfuckers.

4)Doesn't anyone realise that promo's more often than not contain versions of the songs and mixes which aren't entirely finished and could change? Do you really want to pass judgement on something the artist hasn't released yet as it isn't finished?

5)If you were in the same situation, and a load of hard work you had done and were finishing off suddenly got seen by everyone before you were happy with it and released it? It's musical rape and really, a lot of people will sit there looking at their work realising it's leaked and don't you think that that is going to
a)piss them off
b)be disheartning?

6)And for the people who are really really skint, at least wait untill it's out before getting a copy.

Just at least have some respect for bands you like. Earning enough money making metal to live of music is hard, so don't make it any harder or annoying for people who effectively do it out of their own love, give something back, even if it is only RESPECT

Posted before from a Deliverance post. Replace "Deliverance" with "Damnation."

---

I don't understand why so many posters are getting upset about "Deliverance" being shared over the internet before its official release date. This is the fault of the record companies handing out promo-copies to the media. In the old days, it obviously wasn't that easy to mass distribute promo-copies of an album before the release date, but nowadays with the internet, it's kind of pointless to complain about it, cause there will always be someone who is willing to share it online, and one person is all it takes. Today, getting to hear an album before its release date is in the hands of the record companies. Maybe they shouldn't pass out promos so early before the release date.

And besides, the album will continue to circulate over Person to Person shareware after its release, just like all the other Opeth albums, and pretty much anyone's album. This isn't going to stop until all those companies that made that shareware are lawfully made to cease the use of it, like Napster. The chances of that happening seem pretty slim right now, so supporting your favorite artist works like this:

If you like them and want them to make a living at what they do, you will support them with your hard earned money.

It's pretty simple.

I had copies of all the Opeth albums before I bought them all, and they were made by friends. I didn't even download them. How come no one ever gripes about that? How is downloading off the internet and having someone record you a tape or cd-r of an album different? They're not! It's the record companies fault for producing it's product on such an easily accesible, cheap medium that can be widely distributed and mass produced in a matter of days. If they really wanted you to buy cds, they would stop making them cost $18.99 and up.

At any rate, I like Opeth. And as with all the bands I want to support, I will buy their cds when they are released. Being able to "test drive" a cd, so to speak, is pretty fair for a cd that is going to cost you $20 at the mall.

I still think this all applies. People cannot and will not control themselves. Album leakage is in the hands of the record companies.

Ooooh, I feel so bad now:( :( :( :( :( :(

Dying Trees-

Yes. Most definitely! BUT, it only takes one clown to ruin it. Maybe not realizing it for themselves OR just not giving a shit for what anyone else might want, the selfish ones punish the patient by leaking. The word itself! It's a leak! Leaks aren't good! Leaks are usually unwanted...unless you've got a blatter full and a penis to match.

Have you ever gotten pissed of by people analyzing their leaked copy of the album and ruining the whole thing for everyone else, not to mention telling everyone to fuck of for discussing the album when it comes out as it's already been discussed?

Yeah. That's just rude.

OH? This I did not know.

In a later post...
...a bunch of people trying to justify their childishness when really they know that what they are trying to do is just seem self important and fill their hollow empty useless lives.

I wouldn't doubt that.

I am a CD collector, collecting a handful of files on my computer does not come close to the joy of handling all those wondrous jewel cases. :p

My most anticipated release was Tool - Lateralus. I didn't even bother trying to download it (it was leaked a few days prior to its release), but I started getting anxious a week before its release. I was counting down the days, and I made sure to be at Target at 8am to buy it the day it came out. Run-walking down to their music section to see a full display of the brand new Tool CDs staring me in the face was an amazing site, especially after waiting almost 5 years for it. Euphoria.

Try to duplicate that feeling with a list of filenames on your sterile, lifeless computer. I wish you luck.

Mr. Niel said it all....
What people seem to forget is that it's the inderground that keeps these bands alive.... without mp3 a band like Opeth wouldn't be so known... I would never have heard of Opeth if my buddy wouldn't have ripped the cds for me... and after that I bought them and I got Deliverance even before it was released in my country... and guess what? I had the mp3 way before that... And I'll download Damnation as soon as it is available... so fuck you 7 Dying Trees...

Absolutely. One should support the artists if they continue to enjoy the music they listen to!

[/B]

I can't say how many albums I've downloaded, and I may be one of the rare people... Yesterday I purchased 4 CDs from THE END... I have all four of those albums fully downloaded already.... Those bands would have NEVER EVER recieved a dollar from me if I hadn't been able to download their music as I did...

There's still a lot more for me to buy... and stuff that's on my "to buy list", but I'm trying. :)

Oh yea ....that makes perfect sense  ....i downloaded Deliverance the day it leaked ...however also bought it on the same week it was released ...yep, it really complements my other 5 Opeth album's nicely. I am SUCH a "teenie bopper" and thief it's not even funny anymore i guess

If you download an album that hasn't been released yet and buy it when it does get released finally it's no big deal.

Not when they're lame... first he was too stupid to see this thread was a joke... and starts striking out blindly... and then he fails to see that MP3 are responsible for a big percentage of metal fans... even Opeth fans... and that includes me... without MP3 I would never have heard this amazing band.... and I bought the cds and will see them live in February.

Yea that's another thing ....if the album is lame (which i know an Opeth album won't be ...i trust them completely when it comes to music but that's not the point) like say for example.....In Flames - RtR ....i downloaded it ....listen to it occasionally and even liked it for a little while ....but goddammit i'm happy i didn't buy it ....I fucking like Metallica's LOAD more then that album O_O.....and yet i love all their other stuff. Also mp3's got me into bands like Kyuss, Spiritual Beggars, Electric Wizard, Solarized and generally shitloads of killer stoner rock and stoner doom like that, so mp3's are always good in my book

Now about the whole robbing issue ....I spend every fucking cent i get on music .....i may not get ALL the albums i download, but i will if it's good enough as soon as i can ......

Kyuss "Welcome to Sky Valley" owns all. Sooo heavy, soooo grooved out, the epitome of the Stoner Rock genre. Fireball Ministry, and Bongzilla are also worth checking out.

O yeah and btw, that other thread is just linking to some Tom Green nut sack song. When Damnation is leaked, I will download first, then buy when it's released. My usual routine.

Wow i didnt know other people in this list were kyuss fans. Those guys are fucking amazing the pure emotion and intensity they put into their music is second to none IMO. They just make me believe everything they’re sayin came from pure rage or angst or whatever. Blues for the Red Sun is also an incredibly good album...not quite as good as Sky Valley but very very close. You could get lost in their music for hours.

Regarding the debate it seems silly to me 7DT to impose your opinions about how someone else should listen to music. That is not debatable...music is personalized and should be listened to however you see fit.

The only real debate is whether people are ruining it for you and whether or not they're still buying the album. For the former...thats your own fault IMO. Dont click on threads that are gonna fuk it up for you...its not that hard to avoid.

As for the latter, if there's anyone on this list that downloaded an opeth album and didnt buy it they should be shot. But cmon man we're not a bunch of 16 year old girls listening to the pop flavor of the week...everyone here respects music and respects musicians especially Opeth...we're on their f'ing message board!! I dont think that has any sort of validity here...i too spend every cent i have on music and although i have like 1000 mp3s that doesnt mean shit cuz i own nearly everyone of those songs on CD.

Those mp3s opened me up to a whole new world of music that i would have never been privy to if it werent for programs like audiogalaxy, etc. Thats the inherent flaw in that line of reasoning which is the same fallacious justification that the music industry uses to shut down P2P networks.

The people that dont respect music arent going to buy the CDs anyways...they'll listen on radio or burn from a friend or choose some other medium in which to rip off the artist. The people that respect music like you and me and are always thirsty for more are the ones buying most of the CDs...so how can it possibly be harmful for me to hear new bands/songs if it is only going to increase the profits for music industry and ultimately (this is of course debatable) the musicians?
