SSD IN IMAC?

No but I've seen guides on Youtube. I wouldn't do it though, why fix anything that aint broken. I reccon my 27" will last for at least 1-2 more years before I upgrade and by then the new Imacs have SSD and all that mumbojumbo fast bus lightning speed connections etc.

I was most confused for a second, thought you meant Steven Slate Drums.

I'd stick with what you've got. I don't get why you're having performance related issues with your iMac though. Mine runs flawlessly and I have less Ram that you do.

Tbh dude I'm 90 percent sure it's logic :/

Zero performance issues with my late 2009 27" i5. Yesterday I mixed a song with around 40 channels, every channel running an instance of VCC and quite a heavy load of plugins (six instances of Trigger, several PODFarms etc.) and I barely hit 50% processor usage, even though I'm running ProTools with just 3 cores and a 80% processor limit.

Try a different DAW, sounds kinda strange to me.

That's really good going Jarkko! Rich has the i7 CPU I think, so he should be able to run things the same as you and then some. I think his biggest issue was with SD2.0

Yeah I have done full mix sessions and not even hit 40% yet on mine. i7 with 4GB ram using Cubase 5/6. I don't understand the performance issues he gets either :(

The fact that it's baffling me and you makes me want to abduct an apple dev and smack his tits in with a brick!

i just got the 2011 imac... and they have (7pin) proprietary connections now (sata). =\ so, you are unable to upgrade the hdd on your own.

apple basically forced me into buying a 2tb+256gb (ssd).

i plan on investing in a thunderbolt raid array but i count on that being a pretty penny so for now i have this new machine with a significant amount of money already invested in it.

another problem: apple doesn't support ssd caching. with the new intel z68 chip i was hoping apple would take advantage of this technology to increase a significant boost in os drive performance.

but to get back on topic... you can only have dual drives sata+ssd with the 2010 and forward imacs. and even then, apple is discouraging upgrades outside of the initial purchase.

another thing to add about performance: i installed logic pro on this new machine and loaded the "Spaceman" (the killers) session and i had the buffer set to 32 and played the entire song about 6 times. only 9% cpu usage!

it was amazing considering the session is roughly 80 tracks including auxes/automation/inserts/buses/video content etc. apple really outdid themselves on this new imac!

Which processor did you end up going with? I'm still trying to decide between the 2.0 i7 macbook ($1799) and the 2.8 i7 iMac (1699)

Same amount of money basically, but I'm a tad worried i'd miss the extra processing power if I went with the macbook.
