who here has one? I know Ermz does..

did you guys build them yourself?
have them built by someone? (if so, who?)
what was your total $$ investment?

i realllllllllyyy want one.

I am done building an SB4000 which is supposed to be the most current and easiest to build SSL comp clone. I haven't calibrated it yet or ran any audio through it yet, I'm waiting for some XLR-TRS cables to get here (tomorrow).

Cost:

Front panel: $30 (bought on classifieds on GroupDIY)
Case: $40
SB4000 pcbs: $60
SB4000 parts: $300 (resistors, diodes, IC's, transformer, knobs, etc)

Total cost was roughly $430. I managed to solder the whole board in one day (about 6 or 7 hours). The wiring took another 2 hours.

You can buy a new Chameleon Labs 7720 for $500, although I doubt it uses as high quality parts and I don't think the 7720 has the turbo mode and dual sidechain which is closer to the real SSL 4000 bus compressor.

You solder your own SSL Clones but not your own cables ;)

+1, trying to get one done sometime this summer, but I'm afraid I don't know enough to get started on one right away. I've soldered before (a couple of dozen components on a PCB for a robot with a microcontroller), but don't know how to read diagrams and all that stuff. Would it be too much to undertake?

The SB4000 is as easy as it gets. Every part is identifiable on the PC board and there is an assembly manual online. There is also a supplier on GroupDIY that will sell you the entire parts kit so all you have to buy yourself is the transformer and some small parts (xlr jacks and power inlet).

I've got two Gssl Boards waiting for parts here. I've also got the Expat audio power boards and sidecain boards which I've already done, and also the Vu board, but I may or may not need them!

Has any-one got a good current BOM for the Gssl?? especially for the UK
