What are you views on the new Lica;) album? I haven't heard it yet, but ALL I hear is how awful it is, how bad the sound, esp. the drums, how it reminds them of System Of A Down and how disappointed they are after giving the band one last chance........

Let's start subtly... possibly the worst metallica album ever!! They wanted to make a "lo-fi/raw" album to go against the grain of overly produced nu-metal fad, yet they have no problem copying the musical style it self!!! Since when do metallica copy other bands?? and when they do they even copy bands that have copied bands that have copied bands that copied early metallica!! Talk about a tragic full circle! Even though load and re-load sucked, I can't honestly say I've heard any other band that did the same thing as them.
I have pretty much disliked everything metallica has done after "justice", but don't get me wrong... through the 90's I had faith that metallica would come around with an album that would please old fans like myself. Even through Lars' tango with napster I supported them in all the "metallica have sold out" arguments that I could. I had high hopes for this album, but not unrealistically high hopes; we are after all dealing with a band that hasn't produced anything but hard-core-country music in the last 7-8 years! I won't go as far as to say that this would be a "make or break" album for me, but I was fairly certain that my continuing respect for metallica would ride on this album... I got on, took a ride, and was severely bucked off!! I feel that metallica are further from their roots than they have ever been. Their dark imagery and demonic presence of old has been, permanently I fear, lost and replaced by misplaced anger, and the disgustingly sweet remorse that is a trip to a Californian celebrity re-hab clinic… I’m glad you’re better James, but damn! you need some cynicism back in your life!!
I would just like to sum up with the fact that I am completely in favor of a bands right to do what ever the hell it wants to with all aspects of its music and image……. I just don’t have to like it.

Can't agree more with everything *M* said!

Like Marlies it also reminds me of SOAD, I don't like their music but at least SOAD have their own identity, which Metallica have lost (forever?).
They also try some Queens of the Stone Age riffs... without the same talent.
James' vocals are his worst ever, no melodies, few good riffs... in a way I would prefer good ballads to badly done agression.

IMO there are thousands bands which deserve to be known by the Metal crowd, but Metallica are still leading the charts whatever they release... sad but true :Smug:

@ Marlies : ahahah how shocking!
And how unreal, one can't have an erection listening to that stuff lol

Gonna listen to some Mezarkabul and Kreator before going to sleep...

SoaD is the best example of what metallica sounds like today. Listen to Needles from the Toxicity album, forget the vocals, and you'll hear it's practically the exact same thing!

now why the hell can't I just let this thing go

Hmmm .... how come that lots of people running round just heard two songs of the new metallica for one time shouting "it´s shit, i know it´s shit..."? *strange* well, read my lips: after ten turn-throughs or so, I LOVE THAT ALBUM! sure some people wanted another black album, some wanted kill em all, metallica did neither black nor kill, they did st. anger, and - at least to my mind - it´s an impressing piece of rock!

if you don´t like it i don´t care ...

I just love that pic you've posted Marlies as much as i dislike the new album of "the band formerly known as Metallica"

There are too many Nu Metal-Bands who do that kind of stuff better then the above mentioned band!! And i'm not very into Nu-Metal!!
