The Astoria is a good venue, much, much larger than The Underworld.

Also, beneath the Astoria is another venue which is now called The Mean Fiddler (used to be called The LA2). It is in these 2 venues that you will find more of the established names of metal playing.

Personally, my favourite venue in London is The Forum in Kentish Town (used to be called The Town And Country Club).
