I'm a guitarist and have been playing 5 or so years. I want to also start playing keyboards, and I'm looking at getting a fairly decent starter keyboard for home practice and recording.

I was recommended the Yamaha PSR295 or Yamaha DGX205 for a bit more by my local music store. They were £180 and £240 respectively which must be about $400 and $500, but everything is more expensive in the UK.

Suggestions?

ya i just started also.
im gettin a yamaha dx7 off of ebay because there olny like 300 bucks or so on there and thats waht jens johanssen of stratovarius uses
and plus if you dont have a good enough sound you can get a keyboard modulater but those are pretty expensive also

The answer to the keyboard midi controller....

You have a few options here really depending on how much you want to spend....

the StudioLogic TMK88 goes for about 200 and has everything you listed EXCEPT a pitch wheel...altho it has a mod wheel...intereting eh?

M-Audio 88eS- another one for 200 bucks....semi-weighted (altho extremely awesome in its own right) both pitch/mod wheels and USB compatabile :D

M-Audio PRO 88 everything you are lookin....right at 500 :)
