stefan86 listens to coldplay

Good point, it tends to be on the "okay" list for musicians, but I've found fewer who will listen to cool/bop/free jazz as opposed to fusion, lacking the guitar. Either way, Coltrane = god

Dead Can Dance= pretty much everything
You, me, scotch, DCD. Soon!

Metal is probably 20% of the all the music I love. It's just what I grew up listening to, so it's sort of my "main" type of music. Since I've grown out of my teenage years I've come to appreciate anything that sounds good to me, regardless of genre or popularity. I don't believe in guilty pleasures. Why feel guilty about liking something? And just because something is popular doesn't always mean it's bad... sometimes I wonder if people ever consider that something might be popular simply because it's good.

I believe Coldplay is one of those bands. They aren't fabricated bullshit like some bands. They write pure, genuine music and Chris Martin has an amazing voice. They're immensly talented and they put together great songs. As far as I'm concerned there's nothing more to it. Pretentious? Maybe, but how can you know for sure? It doesn't even matter anyways. You either like a band or you don't.. the reasons for either are up to you. I try not to let "popularity" or musical style get in the way of what I think, but that's just me.

And I also really like Load by Metallica. I big time hated it at first, but after a couple years and when I realized that my former favorite band were never going to return to their glory days, I kind of came to accept it and over time it really grew on me. The House That Jack Built and The Outlaw Torn are fucking awesome songs!

I like the Coldplay song where he's walking backwards.

I also like early Foo Fighters. Everlong>most things. I do not like shitty Nirvana though.

Whoa I just had a deja vu about this thread it seems so real but now it doesn't anymore right after I typed real it stopped.

wasn't he the dude in ... mother love bone? just a shot in the dark with that one.

but yeah <3 soundgarden and aic. my copy of superunknown is scratched to hell and "4th of July" skips (figures, my favorite song!), making me very sad.

Mark Lanegan, Screaming Trees frontman. Pretty sure his voice can resurrect the dead. Lately he's been doing solo stuff and collaborating with QotSA:

4th of July is my favorite too! Goddamn it is so heavy and awesome. Sounds like it was recorded in a big underground train tunnel or something.

the sound of that song is what any post-apocolyptic film tries to capture.

i like a handful of coldplay songs ... yellow, the scientist (the backwards video) ... that "lights will guide you home" song ... and i love "trouble" soo much

i like 1 song of theirs, "Ghost of You" ... but i also like stuff by Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco ... the handful of songs they have on the radio are just damn catchy. but hell, i lik Tubring for their catchiness and poppy-ness too. they just don't have a huge following of 15 year-old girls whose chief social activity is going to the mall dressed in mismatched black/striped/sparkley clothing.
