Does it hum/beep (had that problem with interfaces before)?
Can you use it at low volumes (was a problem on the Scarlet)?
Are the left and right channels equally loud (even on low volumes)?

The mic pres sound great especially for an interface in that price range, maybe a little lacking in low end just like so many other internal audio interface preamps. No bugs and runs rock solid on OS X 10.8.5. Some UR22s with certain serial numbers come faulty and need to be sent back to Steinberg for modification, check this page for more info:

I ordered mine through Thomann and it was fine. No humming or noise problems.
The Hi-Z input clips when using active pickups under heavy picking even with the input volume fully turned down. I was advised by the Steinberg customer support to disable the Hi-Z mode or use an external DI box when using active pickups. It's okay with passive pickups although the signal is still hot as well even when fully turned down.
On very low volumes the channels are not completely balanced until you reach a certain point, about 1-2/10th of the volume pot range on the headphone output which is still very low in volume. I didn't connect any monitors to the interface yet so I can't say anything about the line output channel balancing. Other than that I don't notice any imbalance between the channels.

The clipping Hi-Z input is no problem for me. I'll use a DI-Box when tracking DIs anyway. Although I don't get why manufacturers can't seem to get those levels right...

Impedance is somewhat low for passives - only 470 kOhm.
If Hi-Z input clips with actives at 9 V, than it will clip with most passive humbuckers (with proper picking).
It`s common misconception that actives gives higher output, in terms of RMS level it`s true, but in terms of peak level it`s absolutely not, because of internal preamp clipping.
According to specifications, UR22 should be noisy...

The preamps appear to be quiet for most of their range, until the last bit where the noise increases drastically. I don't think it's a problem though.
Maybe I`m slightly wrong, current manuals does not have performance specifications (noise levels etc.), while I`m thinking that it were before...
Maybe something changed (including Hi-Z input imdeance of 1 MOhm vs mentioned 470k).
There is russian review with measurements, but, maybe, on some first generation of UR22...

The reason why I wanted to switch was the channel imbalance on the UX2... What's so hard about making left and right equally loud? That noise thing doesn't sound good either.
Any interface you can recommend?

I have a UR44 and can't complain. The dsp software took some time to get used to. I think it's totally not logical in any shape or form. I'm still struggling with simple routing sometimes lol. Took me half a day to work out how to re-amp with it.
