I'm trying to get into this stuff, but I need serious help with which bands are good and whatnot. I like Queens Of The Stone Age, Kyuss and Down. If you guys could help me out it'd be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Doom as fvck
Some Dozer is good, but one of their albums bored me. Individual songs were fine...but they were all constructed nearly the same way.
Also, most Cathedral around and before Carnival Bizarre fills in a nice, loud hole in your music collection. The Ethereal Mirror does a good job of making you go 'wtf?' on occasion, and features some more traditionally doomy stuff as well as...midnight mountain. Seriously. Midnight Mountain is more trippy than any single stoner rock song ever made.

um, not really. bands like Fleshpress, Grief, Eyehategod, Corrupted and Graves At Sea own the shit out of weak, happy stoner bullshit.

Fuck off and actually listen to it without a biased mind. Acid King, Electric Wizard, Sleep, Om, Goatsnake, Ufomammut, YOB, etc is all very far from happy. Sure some of it can be upbeat but that doesn't even matter because upbeat does not equal happy.
And if you're going to try and say such and such sludge band is better than all stoner use a good band like Acid Bath or The Melvins.

I already have and I believe sludge is darker, heavier and sicker than anything Acid King or Goatsnake or YOB or even Electric Wizard (I agree with Necuratul, this band is godawful) could ever reproduce. and yes, the Melvins are awesome, but not all of their material is pure 'sludge'.

There is not a single sludge album heavier than Sleep's Dopesmoker.
Grief - Turbulent Times is my answer to that. and even though it borders on death/doom, I'd also say side 1 of Llenandose De Gusanos by Corrupted as well.
