I always though YouTube were goddamn thieves, those charts seem to confirm it.


If it weren't for them, musicians could do A LOT better imo (in the absence of any site like it).

You can make anywhere from 1$ - $10 per 1000 views on Youtube plus more whenever people click the ads.
Just put out a lot of content per song like separate guitar, bass, drum, vocal play throughs, then like one all together play through. Maybe like a mix play through showing the DAW plugins and stuff.
1 song turns into 4 or 5 videos with content that fit whatever people are into. Annotate other videos and playlists.
Just keep doing that and next thing you know you have 100 videos and get 10's of 1000's of views a month.

That is actually why Youtube pays so little. You have content producers that are making a video every other day if not every day that range from tens of thousands to millions of views in that video's lifespan which is typically 2 weeks. Most of those content producers quit their day jobs because they can afford to live off making videos. That doesn't even count the record labels that have accounts that are seeing tens if not hundred of millions of views. If Youtube paid more, royalties for content would get out of hand.

It is unfortunate that the inflation of big names means that smaller videos and music don't get paid per listen as they should be, but its part of the beast.
