STUDIO: DEMOLISH doing FREE mixing/mastering

This. It's not just a case of it being more professional. So someone recommends you to an indie band looking to record their first EP, so those guys go ahead and take a look at your site. First thing they see is, in their eyes, a jumbled up nonsensical bunch of scribbled letters. At this point they're most likely doubting whether you're right for the job of recording and mixing an indie band, so they go and look for other studios. Sure, it looks awesome to the guys that are familiar with metal, but would you really want lose that many customers just because your logo is too niché?
I understand what you are saying and i take it into consideration

Everyone does freebies or at least very cheap work when they first get started. I wouldn't be too worried bout it, I think the kid deserves a hug for wanting to do what we do - it's brain-melting work, retarded hours and very little thanks for how much we actually improve a band's "product". Welcome iceman!! It's fun, trust me.

Everyone had a period of looking like an asshole online too, don't be so hard on him.

I would agree that trying to establish a business with a death metal logo isn't probably the smartest thing - you'll drive away more potential clients than you'll pull in. Same goes for business names and overall presentation, sure you might be a "metal guy" but you're also aiming to be a skilled professional, would you still go to a doctor who was rocking shorts & tshirt?

You'll have more success offering cheap/free shit to local bands to build your chops on. If you're good, they'll refer you to other locals and you'll start to build a reputation. Your work should also be one step ahead of your price too, if you do a shit job for free then you'll only get people coming to you coz you are free.
I am just starting off which i mentioned before. I know it was not a smart thing do put up a death metal logo..Im mostly more into recording Metal/Rock bands for now atleast..So i thought the logo might attract some local metal bands. Anyways i will change it soon.
Im trying not to take all that crap from people in a hard way thats all.

I think this whole thing has turned into something much bigger than an ad for some dude trying to get work... Hasn't everyone done cheap or free jobs to get their chops up?

haven't read the whole thing but give the guy a break guys, it's not like he would be able to survive more than a few months working for free and anyway serious bands (e.g. the bands the you want to work with) understand that putting money into an your album is better than not doing so

wow I can't believe people would get mad at someone for offering free services. Doesn't everyone start out recording/mixing bands for free in the beginning? No ones going to pay someone who has no experience or any portfolio to show others.
