Has anyone tried this? Does it do the same great job for cheap as the mics do?
I'm thinking of picking up a mic pre but i'm on a very VERY limited budget so this is basically perfect if it's any good :)

Now i noticed that you can get a Focusrite Platinum Octopre for the same price, i'm guessing it can't compete with that...

probably not. i have a presonus digimax lt and that works really good. its alittle less expensive than the octapre(like about $200.00usd less). im sure the octapre's preamps are slightly better. if you are using good mics though the presonus works great in my experience. id check it out.

200 USD? Really? Might have to check that one out then...

In regards to your post in the duplicate thread, the thing is i want an 8 channel micpre, 8 vtb's is more expensive than an octopre...

i meant it was $200.00usd cheaper than the octapre. i got mine for 599.00usd and i am pleased.
in regards to the studio projects, i know what you were talkin about, i was merely stating that i really like the studio projects preamp i own, so i would check out the one you were lookin at, its probably pretty good.

I haven't been able to find anyone who has tried the SP-828, only publicity from SP reps. Judging from their track record, though, I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the next big thing in recording(just like the Studio Projects C1 and other mics did).

Yeah i got that it was 200 usd cheaper, but then again, you get the focusrite octopre lt for 599 at samash...
But i am getting more and more interested in this studio projects pre, i mean they haven't exactly disappointed me with any of their other gear.

that preamp seems pretty good definetly. but its 599.00 and no digital outs which i believe the octapre le does have with the adat card. the other preamp you may want to check out is the m-audio octane since you can use it for protools m-powered. its still 599.00 but as an channel mic preamp for protools its pretty good. im considering getting one because its way more cost effective than an mbox.

That's the thing, i can't afford it if you add the ADAT so it doesn't really matter, but i'll just be running it to a line in on my MOTU 828 mkII. Then again having the opportunity to add ADAT at a later point is a definite advantage. Damnit it's so hard to decide when it comes to expensive gear (with my cashflow this is very expensive)

i have a motu 828 as well. i would definetly get something with adat then you can record 8 more mics at a time. the presonus digimaxlt has the adat and the mic pres are alittle better than the studio projects and definetly better than the ones in the 828. the m-audio octane, also 599.00 with adat and analog outs and can be used with the 828 or you can now use it with protools m-powered is what i would do. then you can also use protools with the octane or you can then do 18 analog ins on the 828 for 599.00. the studio projects 8 preamp unit
isnt going to be half as flexible and given the same price it doesnt make much sense. if you really want a studio projects preamp after just get a vtb1 for 99.00 and then you can have one of their preamps too. but im sure the m-audio preamps are probably just as good as the studio projects.

I use Logic 7 and tbh i'm gonna stay with it, i have a m-audio audiophile laying around so i can use m-powered PT anyways, i'd only use it for editing...
Buy yeah just having the ability to go ADAT is great, allthough at the moment i only have exactly 8 mics :) But i'll be buying more when i buy the preamp. The presonus is probably the one i'd go with if not the focusrite or studio projects, i've heard better feedback about that one than the m-audio.

thats why i origonally went with the presonus digimaxlt and i am really stoked with it. i use it all the time on pretty much everything. ive been using it for drums and its been really good there. i think it makes them sound really full. check it out. i searched on ebay and finally found a store that sold me one for 599.00 which is a sweet deal. if you look you may be able to find it cheaper than i did, who knows.
