stupid question about tubes..

is it ok to use jj's and groove tubes in the same amp as long as they are both 6l6?

i could not find anything about this when searching..

Only if it's a matched pair of JJ's next to a matched pair of Groove tubes, and even then I wouldn't want to do it if I could help it...

well sense you are listing six tubes in your either talking about a 150watt amp or preamp tubes. if it is the pre amp tubes it doesn't make any difference what brand they are

its a 150w recto.

i talked to my buddy who does amp repair, and basically he said
"yeah dont do that"

so now i feel like a terd for wasting money.

now i have to wait til next pay check to change power tubes GAH!!

It can be ok if they aren't to far off in bias. the tubes won't heat up too much probable since the stock bias on recto is fairly low, if the amp isn't modded with a bias pot already.

best to have it checked by a tech.

I had 3 sovtek and one mesa tube in my amp, and never got an issue, but at the time i put that mesa i didn´t knew shit about tubes, and the amp sounded great still. but if a tech tell you don´t do it, you wanna listen to him.
