Surprising cheap mic

I have a mic I keep in my bag at all times in case I need it when teaching.
Was bored preparing classes today so I decided to try the mic on guitar to see what it was like.
Really surprised at how good and dynamic it sounded.
I used the Lasse/Mago DI pack for convenience.
Here are files. One is the mystery mic and the other is a 57 in exactly the same position. No post eq and levels matched within .1db

Nice! well im no expert but it seems as if mic 2 has a low pass compared to the first mic. Taste wise if i were to go for a tone it would be in between the 2 (maybe not as harsh as the first mic) but great tones anyway. Thanks for sharing!

Both sound decent. I quite like the brightness of mic 1, I think blended with something else (SM7?) for some thickness and it would sound great. Beside that mic 2 sounds quite boxy.

Preferred number 1 due to the cool edge in the highs some people have mentioned. Pretty sure that one is the sm57. But to be honest, I thought both clip sounded a bit too boxy for my tastes.

The boxiness would be EQed out in a mix.
The clips are flat with no eq or MB compressor.
I will reveal after a few more replies.

hahahahahaha ive had the mic for like 10 years and its been sitting in my basement, me and my friends bought it back in highschool to use for band practice!

Sounds like a pretty usable mic then A good reminder to try things outside the standard every now and then.

Hell, I'm currently using a fake chinese sm57 in fredman style with a real one on an album. By itself, the thing sounds disgusting to me, but in fredman it added something I really liked. Kind of glad that I found a use for that thing, cause it was a rip-off. Still fucking pissed about that bullshit...

I liked mic 2 a lot more.

Edit: just saw what it was.

For some reason I guess I liked how it smoothed out things.
