Hey,

I have a 5.1 mix I did this week as six 24bit 44.1khz wav files (L, R, C, Ls, Rs and Lfe), and I want to make a single file out of it to send it to the band. What format should I use (AC-3?) and what software (preferrably free) do I need to convert it into something that can be listened on a software media player or on a physical dvd-player? Stereo mixdown is not an option.

Pretty sure you can make mp3s of these. Or some relatively small file, I remember a lecturer had a 5.1 song that was about 40mb for a 4min song.

mp3 is stereo only. It seems that cubase has a 5.1 export option for .wma

you probably should have printed your mixes at 48K, it's the audio rate for video

eventho the session was recorded as 44.1khz?

if it's going on a dvd, someone will most likely up-convert it.... may as well be you, so you can control the quality of conversion used. piece of mind.

Reaper can output multichannel (4/6/8) wavs. But I don`t know what settings would be most compatible with players/receivers. Probably uncompressed PCM 16 bit 48k
