there's a medley from the new Svartsot album in my player

main goal was to let the folky instruments breath and have a powerful yet organic drumsound.

tell me what you think of the songs and production....

nah, it's real flutes...they're not midi, so the slightly off pitch sound was desired to keep it natural.

2 tracks of rh guits are mesa, 2 tracks of melody/additional rhythms (depends on part) are Überschall

aight! not to highjack your post so - really cool, how you incorporated those
instruments into the wall of guitars! fat as hell!
i'm currently struggeling with a similar band, its really hard to carve out
the spacefor real strings / flutes / rauschpfeife

when is this coming out ?

actually the band asked me to make it clickier after the first roughmixes

I like the mixes. The flute is too loud, on several of the earlier songs in your medley. Strings are great, ac. guitars and mandolin (or what sounds similar to one) are very cool. Great drum sounds! If one thing I personally would give the whole mixes more depth. It sounds quite "stagey" means 2D. I like it more 3D. But that might be intended?

all choices of balances/volumes/levels have been made on purpose and fully aware of the result it'd have.
some stuff was meant to be featured more (especially the folky elements).
Yep, drummer had a great sounding kit and hit like a fucking machine!

I know this feeling, it would be so nice if you could hear the big picture same way in the mixing stage.

But man i really love those folky parts! Did you record the folky instruments in your place? Was there lots of roomsound included in the recording stage or was the space very isolated and added all the reverbs etc afterwards? I would love to work a band like that myself also..

Recordined it at my place.
I do have a live room and an iso booth, I think for this recording I used the booth and used artificial reverb and ambience.
