Recently discovered this band after hearing so much about them. I really like their style and music...anyone else?

I really like Ulver, which is unfortunately why I really don't like Swallow the Sun. Don't get me wrong, the music is great, but the vocals just sound so.. unnecessary.

Kill the vocals and you've got a killer minimal ambient record.



Go for Lykantropen Themes instead

i've only listened to handful of songs on both bands' myspaces and ... i actually feel like it's the other way around ... no problem with StS's vocals but i could do without the vocals in Ulver *shrug* ... they just disrupt the music

gotcha. wow, so i've listenend to 4 songs by this band so far and they all sound like they're by different bands.

my comment about the vocals was for "funebre," which i liked better at the parts where it was just the piano ... then i heard "christmas" and was just kinda like "wtf? i like this, but ... wtf?"

i like them...

You see what you did there lolol. Anyway there's like 50 better doomish bandws than StS, even in Finland where most metal bands sound like abba

Yeah but STS is just a little doom-y. If I wanna listen to doom, I'll listen to other doom bands. To me, it's just like slow, melodic metal with death vocals with some clean every now and then. You could call it doom, but that would be slighting the genre a bit, I'd say. Listen to the song Descending Winters...it's not doom. It just kicks ass. Shit, it's closer to Amon Amarth than doom.

Ulver can do no wrong, btw.

Most of StS good songs are on the first album methinks. "Through Her Silvery Body" and "Out of A Gloomy Light" are my favs by them if we're not counting "The Justice of Suffering" a.k.a. The Jonas Renkse show
