Swedish videointerview with Opeth on hultsfred.tv

Sure! Just sign this here contract saying you'll translate it to English first.

Ack... just kidden. I don't have no stinkin' direct link. :p

Interviewer: Were sitting here right now with Opeth, who are said to be the most unique band in the world. Why do you think they say that?
Peter: Is that right? We are a bit original I guess, its a lot of talk, but no action.
Mikael: No, but naturally we consider ourselves to good, you know, but the most unique band in the world? I'm not so sure about that.
Interviewer: You just released your latest album, Damnation, which is a bit calmer.
Mikael: Yeah, you could say that.
Interviewer: How come you released it this closely after the last one?
Mikael: We did two albums at the same time. We recorded an album called Deliverance, that is a regular Opeth album, a "hard" album, and we recorded Damnation, thats soft. It was more of a project in itself to do two albums that we found interesting and a bit different. So we recorded both the albums in the same time as we normally would have recorded one, and worked like h*ll. It was made mostly becouse we found it interesting, and a way for us to get closer to these influences that we have from the 60's and 70's that we always have used in our music, but now we could get closer to these influences, and basically sound like a band from that time.
Interviewer: It also feels like you opened the doors for more new fans, opened yourself to a bigger market.
Mikael: Of course it gets that way automatically, considering there are no death vocals on the album. A lot of people just cant stand those. But its no conscious effort on our behalf to, you know, sell more albums. We have
always listened to that type of music, so its not meant to be a commercial stunt, but just a thing we wanted to do.
Interviewer #2: Came to think about one thing when you mentioned the new album: What response have you gotten to the new album from fans who have bought your other albums? Have they though like, "Help! Whats going on?", or what?
Peter: The fans have reacted really positivly. They are almost crazy about this album.
Mikael: There was a lot of shit in the beginning. A lot. But then it has faded away. It's always like that.
Peter: A lot of people downloaded the album from the Internet even before it was released and then went out and slagged it, which is cocky.
Interviewer #2: That leads us onto the topic of what you think about the filesharing programs like kazaa and DC. Do you think its OK that your music is circling in there, maybe as a form of advertising?
Peter: For us, I dont think its bad at all. I think its bad if you sell an incredible amount of albums, like Metallica, you loose a lot of money I guess. But for us..
Mikael: If people dont feel any responsibility that they should support their favourite bands. But, like he said (pointing at Peter), when our album is out on the Internet before even we hardly have heard it, I dont like that.
Interviewer #2: No, I can understand that.
Peter: But when its working as a library, that you can listen. Im still, all of us are, oldschool in the way that we buy albums. I would never think about downloading something I like and not buy it. Everything I borrowed, or someone burned for me, I go out and buy.
Mikael: But if its old albums that someone downloads, we dont give a shit. Its cool.
Interviewer #2: Good promotion.
Peter: For us, on our level. But when we start to sell 30 million albums, then we will also sue everyone! (laughs)
Mikael: When we can afford a lawyer! (laughs)
Interviewer: On the album, Damnation, what song is closest to your hearts?
Mikael: For my part, its song number 5 called 'Hope Leaves'. When I made that demo at home I was totally blown(?), I was so happy with that song. And the recording, the version that ended up on the record, turned out, in my opinion, perfect. Its fantastic! I like all songs, but that is my favourite.
Peter: For me its 'To Rid The Disease'. But we rehearsed all these songs, and then they all are boring to listen to.
Mikael: But I like that instrumental too, called 'Ending Credits', that is a sort of corny song. It sounds like elevator music, but its really cool. Feels like your walking around in the city.
Interviewer: But as far as I understand its Mikael that writes all the music. (To Peter): Have you also started writing some of the music, the rest of the band?
Mikael: In the beginning, Me and Peter wrote a lot together.
Peter: But he took over everything. He's done that for along time now.
Mikael: I dont really know what happened, but it fel much easier for me writing alone. I write the basics of the songs at home, making demos and hand them out too see how the like them. Then in the studio, we get together and become a band. Nothing is set in stone of what I have made, and everyone can do what they like you know, its mainly the arrangements that are done before. Then if he (pointing at Peter) wants to change some guitar thing, or if Martin wants to do some nice drumfill, thats OK.
Interviewer: What about the lyrics?
Peter and Mikael: Noone has the time!
Peter: They are written like ten minutes before they are to be recorded.
Mikael: I hardly have time to write them down you know, but I usually whip them together quickly.
Interviewer: So the music is written first, and then the music?
Mikael and Peter: Yes.
Mikael: once, when we did an album called 'My arms, your hearse', I wrote the lyrics at the same time as I wrote the songs, becouse it was supposed to be a concept. I was a bit impressed with myself, that I wrote a concept!
Peter: (laughs)
Mikael: But now its a bit like I'm tired of it. Writing lyrics is tiresome, becouse its always so stressful.
Interviewer #2: We're going to do a few shorts as wrap up, if Linda (Interviewer) doesnt have anything to say?
Interviewer: No.
Interviewer #2: Im going to say two words, and you can choose, and you have to motivate it.
Interviewer #2: Black or White?
Mikael: Black!
Peter: Black!
Interviewer #2: No doubt?
Mikael: No, Its a much more beautiful color.
Peter: Its clothing mainly. No, Everything!
Mikael: Black Metal!
Interviewer #2: Big or Small?
Peter: Big!
Mikael: Small!
Peter: What? A small strong or what?
Mikael: Small.. I think about when I was a little kid and like played with toy cars and Lego.
Interviewer #2: Its good that you have different opinions! He (Peter) thinks about booze and you (Mikael) about childhood. (laughs)
Peter: You get more respect on the yard if you are big! (laughs)
Interviewer #2: Salty or sour? (referring to candy)
Mikael: Salty!
Peter: hmm.. yeah, Salty it is..
Mikael: Dragster 3000! Best low-budget candy there is.
Peter: All those salty snacks are good too.
Mikael: Peppred Skull is great too!
Interviewer #2: Håkan Hellström or Kent? (Two swedish musical acts)
Mikael: Kent!
Peter: Kent! Of Course!
Mikael and Peter: All of us are huge fans of Kent.
Peter: And Håkan Hellström sucks!
Mikael: I wouldnt say that, I have ligtened my view on Håkan Hellström. I think he has a great charisma. (laughs)
Peter: Said by a person that loves David ???
Mikael: Kent is a fantastic band. It's undoubtly Swedens best band ever, in my opinion.
Interviewer #2: Mobile Loo, or go in the forest?
Mikael: I dont dare to go into one of those!
Peter: Mobile loos are made for flipping over.
Interviewer #2: Speakers or headphones?
Mikael and Peter: Headphones.
Mikael: If you have good ones.
Peter: It's almost always better. Even when your watching movies in the sofa.
Mikael: Playstation with headphones is unbeatable!
Interviewer #2: Last question, Vinyl or CD?
Mikael and Peter: Vinyl!

a fine interview there and thanks for translating...

So, did anyone go to the Hultsfred festival?
Which songs did they play?
In Norway I know that ZTV aired quite a lot from the festival. But I don't know if they included anything of Opeth. Does anyone know if they did? Did they show anything on Swedish TV?
Thanks!?

i can't play any files i save with WMRecorder ... for some reason WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER doesn't play them

After the saving process is done, do this:

Close down WM Recorder 7.
Double click the .wmr file - WM Recorder will now start and convert the file to an .asf file which you can open in Windows Media Player.
