Symphony X got screwed again by Detroit!

ah... just want to apologize for my language from all these previous posts. I was in a bad mood (even though I should have been in a good one). And for the record, that is NOT a du rag on my head!! That's a Symphony X fitted hat on backwards!!!
Just in case you guys wanted an inside perspective...
I'm in the local band that started the show. When we got there we found out we had to start 10 minutes after the doors opened because the Shelter had a 10:00 curfew last night. We got a 30 minute set, DTB had to shorten their set, and SyX had to cut like 45 minutes. I was talking to Mike Pinella about it, he didn't seem too phased, I get the feeling this has happened before on the tour. He was like "Oh well, Russ didn't want to blow his voice out anyway singing forever." He was joking that they'd just play the Odyssey and 2 other tunes. They were all really cool guys. Same with DTB. Super nice. St. Andrews was having some kind of rave party or something that started at 11, so they wanted the whole show downstairs to be done by 10. It sucks, but I still had a blast, hope you guys did too!

Yeah, I still enjoyed myself. I didn't know you guys were going to go on so early. We hit a minor detour on the way to the venue, and we only caught part of your very last song. The mix seemed to be pretty good, much better than Devin Townsend's.

And that party upstairs was a bunch of horseshit, btw. We were waiting outside the tourbus and I heard a few taunts from people going into the upstairs of St. Andrews.

Ouch - I would have been livid with a shortened set list. You paid your cash, paid gas money, food etc, and you get jacked out of half a set because of city ordinance.. how lame. Hope you all had fun tho - im juss saying - that musta SUCKED

I was gonna tell ya that I have some friends in the Deetroit area who went to the show and it was the venue who put on the 10PM curfew.

I think the crews should given a lot of credit, because they did not wind up cutting 45 minutes from their set. Actually they cut 3 songs - Accolade II, Smoke and Mirrors, and Of Sins and Shadows. Probably not more than 20 minutes. It still sucks that anyting had to be cut, but all in all it was a great show and it was better than Harpos in every way. Sound quality, length of set, 1 good opening band instead of 6 death metal bands..etc.snpete said:

Aw...it really isn't that bad. For those who didn't stay - please do next time! The band is real nice, and there isn't a huge likelihood of getting shot outside St. Andrew's Hall! Yes, there are a lot of people begging for money. But it's not that kind of an area - and with casino nearby there are tons of police, and cameras in the area. And just a lot of people around. It's not like some dark little corner like Harpos where anything goes.BastrdDrmr said:
I do agree that the Royal Oak theater would be a great place for them to play. But it's a lot bigger than the Shelter. Mike Lepond said they would have played upstairs had they been able to sell the tickets. So we need to keep getting the word out. Compared to other cities, the turnout in Detroit just wasn't all that great. I know we have a lot of metal fans here who would probably love Symphony X if they'd ever heard of them.

Thanks for the plug! I'm so glad people dug our stuff! I missed them last time but I thought this show was a blast. We just gotta spread the word about SyX and get more people to the shows. Word of mouth!

I was thinking more like Hayloft in Mt. Clemens. If George Lynch and Warrant can play there, I'm sure Symphony X could too.Kyra said:

How big is that place in Mt. Clemens? I honestly don't think Royal Oak is a possibility because of the size.
