Syn Ze Sase Tri Între Două Lumi

Misschien gaat er nog geen belletje rinkelen bij het lezen van artiest en albumtitel, maar wat als ik vertel dat Syn Ze Sase Tri twee gitaristen van het Roemeense Negură Bunget bevat? Gitaristen Corb en Spin vervingen toendertijd Soul Faur en Hupogrammos en tourden een tijd mee maar nadat de activiteit van Negură Bunget sterk afnam besloten de twee gitaristen zich te concentreren op hun eigen al bestaande band Syn Ze Sase Tri dat een mix van epic, symfonic en pagan black maakt. Het resultaat is hun debuutalbum Între Două Lumi dat in de lente het levenslicht zal zien.
De thematiek ligt in het straatje oorlog, de bloederige geschiedenis en mythologie van Transilvania, de thuisbasis van de bandleden. De muziek neigt naar een vroege Dimmu Borgir, een donker symfonisch geluid met vele keyboardpassages en geluidseffecten die zo linea recta uit een speelfilm of videogame afkomstig zouden kunnen zijn. De grunts worden verzorgd door Corb die dit goed afgaat en het gitaarwerk staat ietwat zacht en subtiel in de mix, maar hierdoor komt het melodische en filmische meer naar voren waardoor deze keus weer vrij voor de hand ligt.
Het krachtige Ziua din urmă brengt je in bijna bedrukkende onaardse sferen waarbij ik alleen maar kan denken aan regen en storm. Het klinkt allemaal spectaculair en af en toe zeer sprookjesachtig. Een perfect voorbeeld is een rustpunt op de plaat. A vieţii roată . Een kort klassiek stuk dat goed in elkaar steekt en uitmondt in het complexe Măreţia întrupării. Mystieke pianoloopjes, een dramatisch koor, in de verte subtiel koperwerk en oorstrelende gitaarsolos.
Enig minpunt is de wat matte productie waardoor bij sommige stukken de gitaren wat dof klinken maar als je dat afstreept tegen het originele, vernieuwende geluid valt dit punt van kritiek in het niets. Het past wel binnen de sfeer en ik heb liever iets unieks met wat mindere productie dan een gelikt album van een commerciele geldmachine bij Nuclear Blast.
Over ijzersterke debuten gesproken, Syn Ze Sase Tri heeft het voor elkaar. Fans van een lekkere pot epische, symfonische black metal overspoeld door filmische melodie zullen hiervan smullen. Een band met potentie en vooral doet wat ze zelf willen. Meer is er niet nodig.

Di recente ho sentito spesso parlare di gruppi romeni che conquistano consensi in giro per l'Europa; oggi ad esempio abbiamo questi Syn Ze Sase Tri (il cui nome difficilmente memorizzabile potrebbe congiurarne la fama...) che incidono per la Code666 e si fregiano di suonare transilvanian metal. In effetti, chi più di loro potrebbe permettersi di evocare un nome come quello della Transilvania? Tralasciando il particolare (dato che foreste ce ne sono anche in altre parti del mondo e che i vampiri devono ancora essere riabilitati dalla loro iconografia recente che li vede noiosissimi dandy), i componenti sembrano di più dei canonici guerrieri medievali, il che suona un po' banale, visto che la tradizione della Dacia poteva offrire qualcosa di più originale.
Musicalmente siamo in pieno territorio black sinfonico, senza troppe sorprese; atmosfere ampollose, melodie orchestrali e solennità assortite. Il disco non è certo uno di quelli trascendentali e soffre di un'eccessiva omogeneità e stratificazione che lo rende a tratti noioso e di difficile assimilazione. Ci sono momenti ispirati, ma forse risultano più gradevoli perché molto in linea con il genere, e parti particolarmente orchestrate dal piglio fin troppo classicheggiante, che risultano un po' di maniera, oltreché datate; a tratti mi hanno ricordato infatti, le prime cose dei Nokturnal Mortum (prima che ci mettessero il folk, insomma). La produzione dell'album è adeguata a quanto proposto, abbastanza nitida con gli arrangiamenti tastieristici ovviamente in primo piano; la batteria suona fredda e ha un suono molto triggerato, ma non è necessariamente un problema.
Ora, non saprei dire che cosa centra la Transilvania con questo disco; è vero, io non conosco abbastanza musica di quelle zone per poter dire se ci sono infiltrazioni nelle composizioni di questo album, ma quando tornano continuamente in mente Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth e Emperor, posso dire con una certa sicurezza che in fondo non c'è nulla di innovativo o peculiare. Nonostante la mancanza di originalità (del resto non sappiamo se la musica rumena possa o meno congiungersi felicemente al black metal...) ci sono degli episodi validi, che possono comunque attirare gli amanti di questo genere, che credo siano ancora molto diffusi.

In 2009 founding members Corb and Spin joined fellow-citizens Negura Bunget to replace leaving members Soul Faur and Hupogrammos, composing and recording the album Virstele Pamintului. the following touring duties with Negura Bunget stopped Syn Ze Sase Tri activities for a while, then in late summer 2010 Corb and Spin decided to concentrate on their own band, and now their debut album Intre Doua Lumii is finally ready to be released.
Described by many as a mix of early Dimmu Borgir and late Negura Bunget, this album will appeal fans of Epic & Pagan Black Metal.
We say :- The eagerly awaited debut album by Romanian black metal band Syn Ze Şase Tri has had a difficult gestation. Originally formed in 2007 the band, whos name translates as Im with 666″ had what they describe as two unfortunate record deals before signing with Italian cult label code666. The album was recorded in 2008 in Negură Bungets studio with that bands members Hupogrammos and Sol Faur as sound engineers.
When Hupogrammos and Sol Faur parted company with Negură Bunget, Syn Ze Şase Tri frontman Corb and guitarist Spin put their band on hold to join Negru to record the Virstele Pamintului album. (keeping up so far ?). In late 2010 Corb and Spin left Negură Bunget and resurrected Syn Ze Şase Tri.
Hope that makes sense
Între două lumi (Between two worlds) opens with Profeţie (Prophecy) which ticks almost all of the Romanian Cliche boxes. Church bells, Check. Wolves howling, Check. Etherial forest-ey sounds, check. Whispered spoken vocals, check. Its clearly an attempt to build up an atmosphere which ends up feeling about as authentic and Transylvanian as Dracula (who, as you know was actually Wallachian).
Luckily the overdone atmospherics are dropped for Ziua din urmă (The last day) which is fairly straight up melodic black metal, its well enough done but nothing ground breaking. I guess the same can be said for the 13 minute plus Făuritorul lumii (Worlds maker) with its strings and female chanting intro.There is a nice little bouncy riff about 3 minutes in which never fails to make me smile, as if Madness broke into the recording studio one night
The church bells and chanting are back for the start to Gînd blestemat (Damned thought) before it gives way to an intro riff they appear to have, erm, borrowed from Judas Priest. Instrumental track Măreţia întrupării (The greatness of the embodiment) is an orchestral piece which fits in pleasantly enough but ..
Still you wait for Între două lumi to grab you by the throat. If theres such a thing as easy listening Black Metal then this is it, often good but seldom great.
And so it goes on, almost trying too hard to be epic, I mean three tracks over 10 minutes and a total running time of 1.2 hours, does that sound like Black Metal to you ??
I really wanted to love this album, I thought Corb and Spin were both brilliant with Negură Bunget but in the end this just doesnt have anything like the same atmosphere. Thats not to say that its a bad effort, its just that its been brought into a world where Virstele Pamintului already exists .

Syn Ze Şase Tris founding members are Corb and Spin, two of the musicians that contributed to Negură Bungets post-Sol Faur and Hupogrammos release of last year, Vîrstele Pămîntului. Seems like they did a good job there in high-pressure circumstances, but here they are with the first proper release of their own act. It has to be said, if you are hoping for an enigmatic, mystical journey though the wondrous spiritual forests of ancestral Dacia, accompanied by woad-encrusted warriors and wish-granting fauns (or something) you may be disappointed. Unless, that is, you also really love Dimmu Borgir.For Între Două Lumi is essentially symphonic black metal, albeit a variant which is encouraged to intermingle with the distinctive elements of their more celebrated compatriots. And for sure, the atmospheric introduction (howling wolves sound effects, distant tribal drumming and ominous Romanian-language whispering) does some justice to the Negură Bunget comparison touted in the press release. But first proper track Ziua Din Urma enters with the kind of haunted-house synth-string arpeggios and ghost train chromatic black metal riffs that frankly leave me rather cold. That said, in amongst the overblown keyboard interludes there are moments of intriguing fusion. Fauritorul Lumii, for example, features some engagingly hooky lead guitar lines that are reminiscent of some of the more metallic ideas on Vîrstele Pămîntului. Such moments are fairly rare, though.
The album is certainly a capable one, with its chunky, synth-augmented blasting generating some power, and with the pyrotechnics occasionally being wheeled out in the form of rapidfire guitar and string unison lines. See Calea Fara de Sfirsit, which allows melodic colour to gleam amongst its crunching, militaristic riffs, including a well-worked lead solo. And Spirit Etern works extremely well, initially at least; an up-tempo, snarling rush of tight, almost death metal riffing, which is then inappropriately sprinkled with magical fairydust by the keyboards.
Ultimately it suffers from all the things symphonic black metal suffers from. At its worst it feels overblown and inauthentic and I wish the ideas the band members brought to Negură Bungets latest would be given more space to flourish. This is not to say, however, that those who have more time for the genre than I will not find moments of exotic intrigue in Între Două Lumi.

De band Syn Ze Şase Tri is opgericht in 2007 in Roemenië, preciezer bepaald in de regio Transsylvanië. Dat dit gebied een vruchtbare voedingsbodem voor allerlei kunstvormen kan betekenen lijkt voor de hand te liggen. Syn Ze Şase Tri laat zich inderdaad inspireren door de bloederige geschiedenis en mythen van deze spraakmakende regio. Het beetje naamsbekendheid dat de band tot nu toe den deel is gevallen hebben ze merkwaardig genoeg te danken aan hun label-, genre-, en stadsgenoten van Negura Bunget. De twee oprichters van Syn Ze Şase Tri (Corb en Spin) besloten namelijk om die band een tijdje uit de brand te helpen nadat daar twee bandleden waren opgestapt. Dit leidde er wel toe dat hun eigen band daardoor tijdelijk op een laag pitje stond. In de zomer van 2010 werden de gelederen echter weer gesloten en kon er dan eindelijk gewerkt worden aan debuutalbum Între Două Lumi (tussen twee werelden).
De muziek is van het soort waarvoor de term symfonische black metal lijkt te zijn uitgevonden. De naam van en vergelijking met Dimmu Borgir mag in deze review dan ook niet ontbreken. Overwegend een donker geluid, aangevuld met veel keyboardgeluiden en samples/fragmenten die zo uit een speelfilm lijken gekropen sieren deze cd. De nadruk van beide elementen verschilt per nummer, de ene keer heeft de black metal de overhand, een andere keer is het overduidelijk het symfonische aspect dat de show steelt.
Het intro van de cd is al veelzeggend, het doet behoorlijk filmisch aan en lijkt zo weggeslopen uit een soundtrack. Ziua Din Urmă is dan vervolgens een behoorlijk krachtig nummer, midtempo, maar met een behoorlijk duistere sfeer. Die sfeer is hoe dan ook zeer belangrijk op dit album, luister maar eens naar het majestueuze intro van bijvoorbeeld Gând Blestemat. Of laat het duo A Vieţii Roată en Măreţia întrupării maar eens op je inwerken, en je hoort waar deze band toe in staat is.

Stilistisch lassen sich SYN ZE SASE TRI nur schwer in eine Schublade pressen, am ehesten würde ich die Musik der Band als und ja, ich weiß, wie seltsam das klingen mag STRATOVARIUS- oder SONATA ARCTICA-Black Metal beschreiben. Einerseits kredenzen die Rumänen nämlich melodischen Black Metal der Marke DIMMU BORGIR (ohne jedoch nur ansatzweise die Qualität der Norweger zu erreichen) und warten mit allen gängigen Genre-Trademarks, wie keifenden Vocals, treibenden Drums und schnellem, finsterem Riffing, auf. Andererseits stehen SYN ZE ŞASE TRI epischen Power Metal-Bands, wie bereits genannten, in Sachen orchestralen Arrangements, dominanten Chören und Bombast in nichts nach. Wer jetzt einwendet, dass auch DIMMU BORGIR sich dieser Elemente bedienen, dem kann ich nur zustimmen, doch fahren SYN ZE SASE TRI in ihren Kompositionen häufig eine nicht ansatzweise so düstere, atmosphärische Schiene wie die Skandinavier, sondern gehen hymnischer, theatralischer und irgendwie heller zu Werke. Auch die eingestreuten Soli weisen eindeutig eher gen Heavy/Power-Metal.

Ponadto w składzie Syn Ze Şase Tri znaleźć można osoby wspomagające Negurę Bunget na ich ostatniej, bardzo udanej płycie Vîrstele Pămîntului. Niestety ich macierzysty zespół to twór, który do bardziej znanych rodaków startu nie ma żadnego. Black metal wymieszany z klawiszami nie jest czymś ani specjalnie złym, ani specjalnie dobrym, pod warunkiem, że ów koktajl wykonuje się ze smakiem i poczuciem estetyki. La Roumanie offre peu de formations de black symphonie. En réalité, les pays de lEurope de lEst peinent à nous montrer des groupes du genre. Non seulement ils sont rares, mais certains se retrouvent cachés, dans lombre des géants scandinaves. On pensera notamment à Sear Bliss ou Finnugor pour la Hongrie. Et là, Syn Ze Sase Tri arrive en ce début dannée 2011 avec un premier album studio signé chez Code666 Records, label italien qui nen finit pas de sortie des opus de black voire black sympho depuis quelques mois. Lalbum en question, « Între Doua Lumi » est donc, comme vous laurez compris, un album de black sympho comme il se doit, agressif, tranchant et bien énergique.
Mais force est de constater que le quatuor roumain ne fait pas dans loriginalité. Même si la majeure partie des compos dégagent une ambiance épique voire impériale, et même antique, il semblerait que des éléments de ci de là aient été pris aux groupes les plus connus et notamment de la scène locale (toujours nos chers Hongrois). Rien de bien nouveau en somme mais lefficacité des compos restent bel et bien là. Churs, symphonies grandiloquentes, orgues, piano et jen passe beaucoup de claviers en sorte sur des riffs blacks typiques, simplistes et redondants. Même si chaque morceau est différent et assez entraînant, lensemble reste peu inspiré, ci bien que lon a souvent limpression dentendre la même chose. Ceci dit, certains titres se démarquent, notamment les quelques instrumentaux, et le sombre et guerrier « Intre Doua Lumi Transcendenta ».
Cependant, le chant nest pas assez puissant, et ne dégage pas une aura dont il aurait pu tirer avantage. Il manque de charisme en somme. Mais lavantage peut être tiré grâce aux solos qui parfois dominent le titre en particulier, proposant un fil conducteur des plus appréciables, soutenus par une batterie qui sait frapper là où ça fait mal.
En tout cas, il ne faut pas oublier les intros étranges de certains morceaux, qui apportent une certaine atmosphère (les hurlements des loups dans « Profetie » et « Ruga » par exemple), cette pochette assez belle malgré son côté morbide, on y aperçoit dailleurs ces fameux loups, mangeant ce qui reste des cadavres entassés ici et là à cause dune certaine bataille dont le cavalier semble être fier (la pochette colle même parfaitement au dernier morceau sus-cité). Enfin, il ne faut pas oublier la langue employée, étant donné que les roumains sont restés fidèles à leur pays, en chantant en roumain, chose rare, vu que la majeure partie des groupes préfèrent utiliser langlais afin de rester compris.
Un album plutôt bien produit mais dispensable, sauf peut-être pour ce côté épique et impérial propre aux pays de lEst. A découvrir donc pour tout amateur de black sympho simpliste.

Între Două Lumi does have same flaws that I cant help spotting from basically nine out of ten symphonic black metal albums - such as cheesy synth melodies - but the bands strength here is the incorporation of Negură Bunget esque mysterinousness into the mix: whereas the first proper track Ziua din urmă is still a rather straightforward sympho black metal piece, the third song Făuritorul lumii dares to approach more dangerous waters when it comes to originality. Some of the atonal tremolo picked guitar lines even remind me of Nightbringers album from last year which might be an unusual yet somewhat fitting comparison in the context of this particular track.
The quality of the compositions remain pretty much on the same level throughout, the songs never providing anything truly outstanding but on the other hand the little twists and more personal ideas every now and then make sure that Între Două Lumi isnt a boring album to listen to. The production could do better (or then its just my promo version that has quite a watery and weak sound) but it doesnt hinder me from liking the album, liking the album to the extent that its so far the best sympho black metal album from 2011 along with Sailles recent debut.

Cele 10 piese incluse pe acest disc au fost inregistrate in studioul trupei Negura Bunget, materialul fiind produs de Sol Faur si Hupogrammos - cei doi parasind ulterior Negura Bunget fiind inlocuiti chiar de doi membri syn Ze Sase Tri - Corb si Spin.
Muzica Syn Ze Sase Tri se incadreaza in zona melodioasa a black metalului, grupul fiind influentat de primele materiale ale unor trupe ca Dimmu Borgir,Old Man\'s Child sau Emperor. Muzica trupei este suficient de melodioasa dar SZST nu apeleaza la voci feminine iar pasajele de clean vocals si clapele au o prezenta destul de discreta astfel ca radacinile muzicii SZST sunt ancorate puternic in zona black metal. Versurile trupei se incadreaza din punct de vedere conceptual in zona pagan (era sa zic viking) metal, textele vorbind despre credintele, traditiile, zeii si rugaciunile stramosilor nostri daci. Cu putina atentie ascultatorul reuseste chiar sa distinga versurile cantecelor, ceea ce trebuie sa recunoastem este destul de rar in cazul trupelor de metal extrem.
Incetul cu incetul Negura Bunget a devenit un brand in metalul extrem european, statut care ajuta si trupele alcatuite din fosti membri NB. Este evident ca Negru a pus o pila fostilor sai colegi si nu cred ca este o coincidenta faptul ca Intre Doua Lumi apare la code 666 - aceeasi casa de discuri care a sustinut ascensiunea colegilor de la Negura Bunget. Albumul nu este slab dar este exact genul de album pe care il scot alte enspe mii de trupe. Dar daca sunteti fani ai trupelor amintite mai sus probabil ca nu veti fi dezamagiti.

Dark Symphonies from the Black Metal heart of Romania.
Roughly translated the bands name means,Im with triple 6. After some brief thought and armed with the knowledge that Syn Ze Sase Tri create Symphonic Black Metal youd be forgiven for thinking that this refers to the oh-so-common personality of that movement, Lucifer. Although you would be incorrect in this most obvious assumption because according to the bands press release;
The band ply their trade in the Black Metal genre, that is, the modern symphonic version of the genre favoured by Dimmu Borgir and Emperor. The buzz saw guitars sound big and well produced with big symphonic string sounds frequently backing the band up. The songs are eminently listenable and provide an all-encompassing sonic experience such are the numerous types of instrumentation utilised. Album opener proper Ziua Din Urma contains a meaty driving riff backed with lush strings while Corb spews lyrical vitriol a la Shagrath, albeit in Romanian. Third track Fauritorul Lumii opts for a more straight forward approach with minimal orchestration, encouraging straight-up headbanging Most of the remaining tracks run the gamut of sounds between these two to varying amounts, but without simply repeating the same ground over and again.
The listener is kept interested at all times with time-changes and shifting moods with the orchestration utilised to the maximum when every possible. Maretia Intruparii is a sparse arpeggiatted piano driven instrumental grandiose in its vision. Calea Fara De Sfirsit raises the tempo and propels the listener through a highly symphonic choral backing towards a powerful closing guitar motif.
There is a typical shortness to the songs on offer here, with barely any of them lasting upwards of the six minute mark. I get the impression the band have exercised a great deal of restraint in this respect, or it could be a lack of confidence in their own song writing. Syn Ze Sase Tri seemingly have the skills to craft some longer, epic songs and could take their listeners on a journey with them and occasionally (and that is a very important occasionally) such a feat should be attempted. Imagine how exciting that could be? A Symphonic Black Metal version of Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Ghost Love Score nudging up alongside their shorter, balls-out, riff until you drop tunes. It might not be something the average Black Metal fan might want to hear, but for the casual observer it could be wonderfully thrilling.
For fans of the Symphonic Black Metal genre this album is a worthwhile addition due to the obvious care that has gone into crafting it with a high quality production and thoughtful song writing. There are plenty of opportunities to simply rock out along with those to get in lost in with the headphones on. The album cover portrays a mounted armoured black knight trampling over a pile of skulls, presumably post battle. Sitting back and closing your eyes, the music within provides the perfect soundtrack for this, allowing your imagination to follow this anti-hero on some long forgotten quest.

After some brief thought and armed with the knowledge that Syn Ze Sase Tri create Symphonic Black Metal youd be forgiven for thinking that this refers to the oh-so-common personality of that movement, Lucifer. Although you would be incorrect in this most obvious assumption because according to the bands press release;
It actually refers to the supreme number, a limit between the human world and the world of the Gods, in ancient mythology.
This description seems a bit vague, which is probably due to the multiple language barriers that have needed to be crossed in order to arrive at an English description. Syn Ze Sase Tri themselves are Romanian and their label (Code666) are Italian. Either way this marks Syn Ze Sase Tri out immediately as being something different to the regular Satanic Black Metal band. In fact taking the description of their name and ascribing the human world to be the Black Metal genre, and the world of the Gods to be the Classical genre, this album does a very good job at straddling the two. Indeed, the direct translation of the album title is in fact;
Between Two Worlds.
Syn Ze Sase Tri were originally formed in 2007 by Corb with this debut album being recorded in 2008. It was at this time that Corb and bandmate Spin joined countrymen and fellow Black Metallers Negura Bunget to record and tour the album Virstele Pamintului. Then in late Summer 2010 the pair left Negura Bunget to return to their own band with Intre Doua Lumi now seeing the light of day.
The band ply their trade in the Black Metal genre, that is, the modern symphonic version of the genre favoured by Dimmu Borgir and Emperor. The buzz saw guitars sound big and well produced with big symphonic string sounds frequently backing the band up. The songs are eminently listenable and provide an all-encompassing sonic experience such are the numerous types of instrumentation utilised. Album opener proper Ziua Din Urma contains a meaty driving riff backed with lush strings while Corb spews lyrical vitriol a la Shagrath, albeit in Romanian. Third track Fauritorul Lumii opts for a more straight forward approach with minimal orchestration, encouraging straight-up headbanging Most of the remaining tracks run the gamut of sounds between these two to varying amounts, but without simply repeating the same ground over and again.
The listener is kept interested at all times with time-changes and shifting moods with the orchestration utilised to the maximum when every possible. Maretia Intruparii is a sparse arpeggiatted piano driven instrumental grandiose in its vision. Calea Fara De Sfirsit raises the tempo and propels the listener through a highly symphonic choral backing towards a powerful closing guitar motif.
There is a typical shortness to the songs on offer here, with barely any of them lasting upwards of the six minute mark. I get the impression the band have exercised a great deal of restraint in this respect, or it could be a lack of confidence in their own song writing. Syn Ze Sase Tri seemingly have the skills to craft some longer, epic songs and could take their listeners on a journey with them and occasionally (and that is a very important occasionally) such a feat should be attempted. Imagine how exciting that could be? A Symphonic Black Metal version of Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Ghost Love Score nudging up alongside their shorter, balls-out, riff until you drop tunes. It might not be something the average Black Metal fan might want to hear, but for the casual observer it could be wonderfully thrilling.
For fans of the Symphonic Black Metal genre this album is a worthwhile addition due to the obvious care that has gone into crafting it with a high quality production and thoughtful song writing. There are plenty of opportunities to simply rock out along with those to get in lost in with the headphones on. The album cover portrays a mounted armoured black knight trampling over a pile of skulls, presumably post battle. Sitting back and closing your eyes, the music within provides the perfect soundtrack for this, allowing your imagination to follow this anti-hero on some long forgotten quest.
