synchronicity

the term was coined by psychologist Jung to refer to situations where something that you see/hear or happens to you coincides with something you think about

in other words, the outside world and your inside world point in the same direction for a moment; the meaning an event you observe has for you is of course a personal meaning and usually is not shared by other observing the same event

Jung observed this in sessions in which his patients told him of such events; I've had it a couple of times too, scared me even

maybe it's better to let Jung himself say it:

"Synchronistic phenomena prove the simultaneous occurrence of meaningful equivalences in heterogeneous, causally unrelated processes; in other words, they prove that a content perceived by an observer can, at the same time, be represented by an outside event, without any causal connection. From this it follows either that the psyche cannot be localised in space, or that space is relative to the psyche. The same applies to the temporal determination of the psyche and the psychic relativity of time. I do not need to emphasise that the verification of these findings must have far reaching consequences."
[Vol.8 Collected works. Para 996]

in yet other words:

Jung's idea on synchronicity can be summarized (from his paper of the name found in paragraph 984 of his Collected works). Jung says that sychronicity is:

1.A coincidence of a psychic state with a simultaneous, objective external event.

2.A coincidence of a psychic state with external event simultaneous in time, but spatially removed.

3.A coincidence of a psychic state with an external event distant in time.

cheers man :) i knew you'd compensate my laziness with proper info ;)
as Chopra stated "intention creates coincidence".

those things occur to everyone i think. sometimes it feels like a coincidence, sometimes you sense its not remarkable at all. u know its right.
thoughts are vibes, tho would find it a logical thought that animals are for more receptive to such things than humans.

Sheldrake did this test like; a camera pointed at this dog, inside a house.
the dogs master (video taped as well), positioned at her office, miles away.
simultaniously filmed, split-screened.
her boss tells her she's allowed to go home. at that very moment, the dog raises its head and slowly walks towards the front door. the car turns at the corner and the dog starts to bark.

The term synchronicity is not used as broadly anymore as Jung defined it. This Sheldrake experiment investigates telepathy, as it is termed now. Synchronicity is reserved for personal human experiences in which the external event is observed at the same time as the inner thought. Anyway, about parapsychology: check parapsy.nl for some info.
