Have you thought of opening up a contest for next year's T-shirt design? Winner gets a gold badge. Might be cheaper than hiring out the design, if that's what you do. You would need to set the deadline for submissions plenty early in case nothing special is submitted so you can have time for your regular vendor to get the job done without it being a rush.
