Taking the foam off of an SM7B

I've seen a lot of pictures lately of guys recording screaming vocals through an SM7B with the main foam piece ripped off. I don't know if everyone's are attached but mine seems like it doesn't want to come off. Is there any advantages to doing this?

There is actually a plastic ring at the bottom of the windscreen that is part of the windscreen. IIRC you kind of have to pinch in to get it to come off.
The advantage is you aren't losing HF to the foam.

yeah... take the foam off and use a pop sheild... the top end is much more open this way.

It comes right off. Just pull on the plastic ring, you won't break it. It's definitely more open without the foam but the biggest advantage to removing the foam is that it looks fucking weird/cool.
