Been at least 5 years since I used a sm7 and to be honest it was the wrong mic for the vocalist through the wrong pre at the time so ended up using a Rode NTK....

This year I seem to be doing more and more vocal recording were my 58beta through the monitors with the vocalist in the room which yields better performances than headphones and condenser and so I'm leaning towards a sm7 but for some projects the 58 obviously lacks the detail of a condenser so I'm interested in getting that medium of performance and detail, hence a sm7.
For all the real brutal vocals the 58 is great but mixing and recording vocals on my mates EP at the mo and its like heavy white stripes vocals and the 58 is causing me a headache....
I think I have enough pre amp gain to make this work now as I have a pre73 so any one any experience from 58 beta to condenser and all the bits in the middle regarding the sm7......
