I have an old soundcraft spirit mic/line tdif interface, is there any way of using it as my audio interface for laptop recording? i have USB 2.0, pcmia, firewire, the usuals

If you have an interface* with SP/DIF inputs then yeah..

Interface being the last stage before the computer.

What's the outs on the Spirit? If it's line outs, then just connect them up to another digital connected interface.

signal - sound card - computer

if you've got a unit which can accept mic / line levels, and it can't connect to computer .. then you need something which you can hook up via line input to connect via USB or Firewire.

So, have a look at M-Audio or Tascam and see if there's something which suits your budget.

That way you can connect your spirit up to your new PC connected interface via 1/4" lines.

Might have to look for a Tdif to ADAT converter. Until now I thought TDIF was only on Tascam machines.
