tech death instrumental

aight, ive got something rough for you for now, just a short clip :)
this REALLY needs some bass, its really thin sounding right now, these guitars are high-passed really high up because the low end was all filthy rumble. was pretty muffled too so i added a lot of high end, great tone apart from that though. beautiful grain to it, props to greg on that one.

ive gone for a pretty standard tech death sound, fairly dying fetus-esque
pretty fucking dry sounding, really high tuned drums
im thinking of doing a more natural sound if you wanted me to try that out.
i experimented with using the nir z snare for an hour or so but it started sounding messy, but im sure i could make it work with a bit more time.

ive done two "masters" for you.
one thats around -14 or -15db RMS and one thats hovering around 10. I know which one I like more but at the end of the day its your track and your call, so here's both clips. it's only a minute or so long so far (id have the whole thing for you but i have to turn the velocities up for everything cos it sounded really soft and im not done yet,) no automation, no leads.

wow you're right, that definately needs some bass,
i'll send you a gp file slipkeysbass

the drums do sound already much more natural
in fact they even appear more real to me than some tech death albums that were recorded with a real drummer:lol:
nevertheless it's actually not so important to me that they sound natural
to be honest i'd rather have an ordinary single-hit no-mid kick
i'm so used to the kick being triggered with one sample that for the kick i generally prefer the artificial sound over the realistic one
for the other drum components it's fine though if they sound realistic, the snare is much better but still a bit machine gun like, the rest is absolutely fine however as you said it does certainly need a bass

and thanks to you peple for your support, i never expected that much help & feedback

great, waiting on a PM from you, I promise I can have something in 2 or 3 weeks tops, I'm setting my bass up tommorrow and gotta start practicing and learning the song. I'll give you a DI track in .wav with the marker for the beggining so you can easily sync it in your session, k?

yeah i did mess with the velocities for a while and have a really nice natural vibe going on, and i did at first replace the kick, but that just sounded TOO un-natural. im far from done with the kick, its still too pillowy IMO, but its getting there.

but the problem with the snare is like, if i did you some nice nuanced, realistic sounding blasts, you can barely make out the hits, but if i get less lazy ill try doing it that way again and automate in some volume changes for the softer hits

if someone runs the bass midi through something for me like, fruity loops or something, whatever, and gives me the wav file, i can process it and do some PLACEHOLDER bass while dan works on real bass

also, can i get the guitar DI's? i wanna blend in one of my magical revalver chains just for a tad more meat.

but yeah, im really enjoying working on this track :D

OH MY GOD Gareth - I'm sorry, but this snare sounds ridiculous dude  Maybe just cuz I can't ever imagine a human playing that fast, or possibly cuz a human could never play them that consistently loud, but I'm getting some heavy drum machine vibes from this. As mentioned, the guitar playing is ridiculous dude, so probs for that - guitar tone is way too middy IMO, and feel kinda small as a result; some scooping at around 700 Hz I think is in order (though don't quote me on that frequency, but I'm pretty sure that's it). Can't wait to hear it with bass! And yeah, IMO the kick is still too pillowy, but every clip I've heard of S2.0's stock kicks doing metal has sounded either like that, or horribly boosted in the click range. Replace it and be done with it homie! :D Cymbals are a touch too low IMO, though maybe that's cuz all I can hear is this ridiculous snare

EDIT: But oooh, for the rare times the toms come in, they rule :headbang:

this is gonna take some serious automation haha
and i did try scooping some guitar mids but it just became an incoherent mess when i did, but i shall keep playing with it!

Oh, and a big +1 to an alternating two-sample kick (meaning, two different hits from the same sampling session, just so it's not totally machine gun-like) with zero dynamics!

dude i had to do barely anything to the toms, they sound so deep and rich and full
s2.0 has the tom sound ive always fucking wanted with minimal processing

unfortunately i haven't written a bass track yet,
maybe for the beginning we could just take the guitar track, pitch it one octave lower and use it for the placeholder bass, could sound quite funny i think

¯\(°_o)/¯ how do increase postcount?
appearently there were some glitches on this website, i noticed it too, i was about to write a long post into another thread which was unfortunately deleted

i'm glad you volunteer to write the basslines, i'm eager to hear it

btw why isn't there a smiley shortcut for ¯\(°_o)/¯ on the right side? would be cool

holy shit!! I hadn't realized that until I got back home now hahahaha I deleted all the duped posts, that was obviously a mistake due to my crappy internet connection failing on me so I hit the post button various times after it seemed like it hadn't been posted.

I'm working on the bass lines right now, I'll let you know when I'm done
