Telephone sound on vocals?

I know this is obviously achieved through a combination of highpass/lowpass filters and quality reduction but is there a plugin I can use to do that? Basically to bring the quality of the track down from 44.1 to something awful, shitty, thin and distorted sounding?

well yeah besides the high/low pass and a big boost (I think around 1.2 should get you there) I'm pretty sure that plugin Low-Fi or something like that lets you really fuck up the sound.

not at the studio so i cant check, but normally its something like... compress the shit out of it, highpass up to about 300/400 low pass at about 5 k, boost 2 k to cut through.
but most of the time i use this

Put a mic in front of a phone, that's the most credible way

just add a bit of overdrive after a hp and lp! i hp around 300-500hz, and lp at like 2 khz! also, try to get the proximity affect going when recording the part!

i used this http://www.camelaudio.com/camelcrusher.php with the 'Santana Row' preset. distored, phone-like - pretty cool.

i've also used MDA's combo on the 'Radio' setting with some good luck for just a real mono, boxy sound.
