I don't know why I never tried this before but I think it sounds extremely balanced. What do you guys think(apologies for the sloppy playing and the fact that you can hear my pick hitting the strings in the background; I couldn't turn the amp up too loud).

Fernandes Monterey JB -> Mesa Mark V ->Recto cab ->Blue Bluebird -> shitty Mbox Mini 3

fuck me thats a sweet tone, very smooth :Smokedev: Nice riffing, you should defff post up the complete song with drums n errything :kickass:

Thanks man! I didn't intend on even doing anything more than just a tone test but I'll re-track it, program some drums and throw some bass in there. I should also hook up my good rig with the A-designs tube pre and Lavry AD... See if that adds some clarity.

Sounds very AJFA, digging it. Kinda dull/not very clear unfortunately, almost sounds like listening to the 96kbps mp3 version of the guitar stem. If you can solve that issue you're set with an awesome tone.

Jeff, I've constantly battled with the clarity issue.. This is a pretty shitty 128k mp3 because that's all that soundcould seems to be able to stream in a link and it definitely lost some detail in the high end.. I definitely prefer to keep the mic back about 5 inches from the grill and about 1/2 inch off the center cone. P.S. what's AJFA?

I'm assuming and justice for all by metallica :D

Their best album imo

Hah!! I'm not sure how that didn't occur to me. That and Pastor of Muppets are amazing!

And ride the lightning. And kill 'em all, and the black album, and even load to an extent...... I can't think of any witty names :( but either way, awesome tone, this has just made me gas for a mark v even more than usual.... one day :p

Dude, I have owned A LOT of really awesome amps and this thing can do practically everything. Every day I'm finding a new fun tone that is drastically sounding than the last- it literally sounds like a completely different amp with some minor adjustments.. Not to mention the treble knob is basically a turbo-charged tubescreamer.

Exactly my reason behind buying it, seems to be the most versatile thing on the market besides the axe fx... but the axe fx just seems to be missing that "real amp" feeling. Not to mention that the cleans on the mark v sound fucking gorgeous, and mark iv mode is ridiculously fat sounding.

And mark 2c+ mode means I can get old school metallica tones, should I ever want them :D

Definitely with you on the comparison of versatility . I had an axefx for a year, and while as great of a unit as it is, I hated that I couldn't move a Mic around and not to mention how some of their amp models were absolutely nothing like the real thing when it came to response. I'm finding that the mark can cover more ground than the axefx.
