Texas death metal band INIQUITOUS, Suffocation's MIKE SMITH on drums

Yeah, claiming Mike Smith is in your band because he sent you some MIDI data is pretty weak. You may get his sort-of creative spin on the drumming style, but any dynamic/real feel seems to be pretty much obliterated by fact that there were no acoustic drums involved. I'm actually surprised that Mike Smith even wants to tie his name to MIDI-only, random outside projects...

Is no one else concerned that Mike Smiths drumming on this, regardless of midi, is incredibly sloppy? That's the biggest issue with it all.

Yeah man. He is definitely playing some challenging stuff however it just sounds completely under-rehearsed for the complexity. I know if I paid a hefty chunk of change for a midi file from a legendary drummer (I never would), I wouldn't want to quantize either.

As Aaron said though, kind of defeats the purpose of having said legendary drummer with not one bit acoustic drumming involved at the least. At least with Nir Z's similar "send a midi file" service, if you used Superior 2.0 it would at least be his hands hitting drums at some point. This just to me seems low.

Surely the point is to have what smith would play, not him actually playing.

well, apparently the band produced this themselves. it could be that they were incorrectly using whatever drum sample software they had, causing inaccurate hits and such. add to that sloppy guitar playing, and the whole production turns into a giant mess.

edit: let me say something positive; even though the guitars were out of time, they definitely had some cool riffs.

Are you sure this was not recorded with Mike and not just Midi files? I thought I remembered seeing the band post pics of them with Mike during the recording process...?

I personally like the music!

I wouldn't doubt it, as the bassist is in Sarcolytic with John Zig, who has done the last few album covers for Suffo.

the problem these guys have is...I live here in San Antonio and they are gonna have a real hard time finding a drummer that can play any of their material. we just don't have drummers that good here.

INIQUITOUS are fucking awesome! Haha people may think I'm totally wrong but I fucking love the mix, the song writing and think the drums fit perfectly :D

Sounds perfect to me
IT'S FUCKING DEATH METAL, it's meant to sound decrepit and dirty, stop being such a bunch of pussies.
Mike Smith rules

It's death metal it's not MEANT to sound like anything.

But yeah, song sounds good, i agree that they could have been edited a little better though.
