Body Found Hanging Outside VFW Post in Ky.
WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) - A man hanged himself outside a Veterans of Foreign Wars post early Wednesday, just hours after he apparently burned American and POW-MIA flags in the same place, authorities said.
A passer-by found the man around 1 a.m. Wednesday. He was dressed in civilian clothes and found hanging by the flagpole rope, Detective James Hall said.
The man had not been identified Wednesday evening.
Hall said he believes the man burned the flags late Tuesday before returning to hang himself.
Post 2728 Commander Ray Christy told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that the flag-burnings apparently were ``some kind of protest.''
Coroner David Jacobs said the man appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s but was not carrying identification.
The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
Winchester, a city of about 16,000 residents, is about 20 miles east of Lexington.
no big loss.
