Haha, that reminds me of the Jesus Akerfeldt thing I did. I must've seen it some 500 times in the strangest places since creating it. Everyone seems to dig it.

shame on you for thinking they would :loco:

what was the setlist, roughly?
They always played Advent and/ or To Bid You Farewell when I saw them...

Setlist (thanks to my friend Robert) :
Ghost of Perdition
Blackwater Park
In My Time of Need
Face of Melinda
The Grand Conjuration
The Leper Afinity
To Rid The Disease
Deliverance
Demon of The Fall

:OMG: nothing off still life even!? dammit! oh well, that's not a bad setlist, at least they dropped the drapery falls instead of leper affinity or bwp...

still, who wouldn't much rather see baying of the hounds or beneath the mire than the grand conjuration...that's one of the only opeth songs that stick out to me as being not up to par

That doesn't thrill me at all. The first and last two songs are good choices, but I don't think In My Time of Need should be played at every show the band does and it doesn't make sense to recycle Damnation material when the new mellow songs like Hours of Wealth and Isolation Years OWN them so much. Face of Melinda is a strange choice, why not Moonlapse Vertigo? The Grand Conjuration is a very meh song, though probably better live and The Leper Affinity gets owned by Bleak, so again poor choice when they could've picked a better song off the same album. And it's also not like they're trying to show variation with this setlist or I'd be ok with it, as has been pointed out, they've played this stuff A LOT in the past. Maybe they'll change it up for the U.S. tour, but I wouldn't expect drastic changes. The Lamentations setlist was good, but not terribly different than this one. At least they played The Moor and April Ethereal. ;)

The setlist they should play (noting the fact that they won't play older material):

Beneath the Mire(any of the first three songs off GR would work here though)
Bleak
Moonlapse Vertigo
Hours of Wealth
Reverie/Harlequin Forest
Blackwater Park
Atonement
Demon of the Fall
Deliverance (this would be the ultimate closer, time to stop using DotF)

That mirrors their selections fairly well, but greatly improves the quality in my opinion.

I wish Opeth would have played Blackwater Park when I saw them. I really dig that song.

They don't play FOrest of October anymore?

Face of Melinda is off Still Life, my dear. ;) .
haha, totally missed that one...still i agree with Opeth17, why play that when there are so many classic songs on Still Life, FoM is another song of theirs i don't really love unfortunately....oh well, my dream Opeth set list is rather dramatically different than their current one and they are out to promote GR after all.

speaking of which, i've been giving this one a good listen the past few days and i'm liking it more than ever....i still need more time but i'm psyched to see them; whatever they play it'll be good  [/fanboy]

and p.s. thx a lot for responding so quickly ;)

There's no point imho in discussing personal favourite setlists. Sure I would've liked to hear sth off Morningrise, but it was a great show anyway. They're very professional in what they do, and not a single song (except for The Grand Conjuration maybe) failed to get the crowd going, and incite them to sing and headbang along non-stop.

man, demon of the fall needs to die, that song sucks. they should play something like the amen corner instead.

also glad to see they are still playing deliverance in there, since it's one of the most amazing live songs ever. :)

@s2f: absolutely, i hate "dream setlist" threads, and they could play my 10 least favorite songs and i'd still be pumped, i might be disappointed but they're one of those bands where you can't walk away without saying "damn they nailed that set"

@nad: fuck you dotf rules

the ending is cool but everything leading up the DEEEMOONN!!! DEMON OF THE FAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!!!! part is dumb.

i sorta fall into the "don't bore us, get to the chorus" category with that song, pretty dumb way of looking at things as an opeth fan, but i'm pretty dumb as it is, so there you go. :Spin:

They need to bring In Mist She Was Standing back into their setlist. Even if it was just for one show, in some small town in Slovakia, I'd make the trip.
