Been working on a new mix with the intention of emulating that bulby/tesseracty snare sound.

Just a quick little recording, all of 19 seconds long, just to get a feel for the sound.
Guitars were recorded in all of 2 minutes, quad tracked, way too much gain and too fizzy, but they're only there to fill up the space really.

Drums sound pretty fockin nice IMO.

Thoughts?

somehow, I can never listen to clips on esnips! maybe those dudes just don't like me... I'm interested, tho, how did you tweak the snare?

The snare sounds like a tennis match going on at Wimbledon. Perhaps try to cut a bit of the ring off.

Backed off the compression in AD and turned the AD snare track down. Exported the soloed snare, re-imported in a new track and compressed the utter shit out of it with Wavearts Trackplug 5 and turned it up mega loud, then just tried to blend the levels between the AD snare track and the compressed snare.

Just your basic parallel compression jobby.

I think if you used a better snare sample (not a fan of that ring) you would have a similar sound.

Yeah, I can't afford drumagog and I can't seem to coax a better snare sound out of AD :S

I'm working on it though haha.

That sounds great. The ringing is a bit much as people have mentioned, but you really nailed that thick smack. Any details on the compressor settings?
