comus was a very unique progressive folk band from the UK in the early 70s. they did 2 albums, their first being the undisputed better album, an absolute classic, which was very dark, eerie, and beautiful...an aquired taste due to a lot of querks and unusual composition and structure, but a very wholesome and classic band once you do aquire the taste. this is the band that coined the phrase "my arms your hearse" which Opeth would later use for their album title...along with the phrase "baying of the hounds" and so on. essential for any progressive, or folk fan.

Wow, it was just a name to me before, now all of a sudden it appeals to me.
Thanks, I'll have to check this out myself you made it sound very interesting.. well to me anyway.

thats exactly the problem with unadventerous opeth fanboy sycofants. many of you will not look into anything other than metal no matter how good or hyped it is until "tHe aLmIgHty" says he likes it. do some homework people, theres a whole world of music out there.

How does To Keep From Crying compare to First Utterance? In terms of sound and all.

to keep from crying is less consistant, more accessible in a narrow way. and not nearly as unique as their debut...its more akin to other progressive folk records of that period. its still good though, id definitely recommend it still.

i believe because of the mere fact that the music is 25+ yrs old its ok for an "Opeth fanboy" not to know a given band, especially if the cds/vinyls/etc are rare

i loves teh scorpions too..........IM STEEEL LOOVING YOUUUUUU.......!!!......ahahaha..........man that new katatonia tracks owns though...!!!......PEAC EOUT

I found First Utterance on eBay about 4 months ago for not too much money. I wanted that instead of the Songs for Comus compilation because I prefer to own albums seperately (and First Utterance has a nice cover) and I had not actually heard any of the other material on the compilation (it's both their albums and an EP). But atleast the albums are actually available on CD now. I remember looking for them when I first read about them like 4 years ago (just out of interest, I don't know if I would have bought any then) and I couldn't find them anywhere. The compilation album is definitely new'ish, but still quite expensive (33 bucks or so).
