Things are quiet around here lately. Lets spice the board up a bit with some local music recommendations.

Troldhaugen are pretty great black folk metal from Wollongong. For fans of Finntroll and the like. The song on their page is killer, so killer I bought the EP.

Cold Divide are a new goth/electro/metal outfit from Melbourne. Their three track EP 'Grand Manipulations' is one of the best pieces of Australian music I have ever heard (though I am a big fan of the genre). Download it for free from their site, as well as another track on there as well. Can't wait for them to start gigging more regularly.

Shellfin are Kyuss inspired stoner rock from Brisbane. Another free download, check out their new album 'Secondhand Family'.

Doug gave me a sample of their stuff and it blew my fucking mind!
Pure smooth conceptual prog metal. Beautiful mutli layered vocals and great keyboards.
Check them the fuck out! :headbang:

Other bands to check out:
Voyager
Reign of Terror
Darker Half
System Addict
Taliesin

Some more but can't recall names right now or their current statuses.

Be'lakor are the only Aussie band to really grab my attention in a long time. I didn't even realise they were Australian when I first heard them. I remember thinking something like "holy shit this is awesome... melodic death metal this good can only be from Sweden" then being even more amazed to discover that they're locals.

Prior to that I think the last time an Aussie band really impressed me was The Eternal or Anubis.

OK, mind officially blown like a Yanky Sailor in King's Cross!

This band is fucking awesome!
Can't believe have never heard of them before!

Seriously need to get their CD! :headbang:

Been enjoying Dreadnaught's latest since seeing them play to about 30 people in Bendigo a couple of months back. Embarassingly small gig, but they put on an awesome show anyway and were top blokes in a great mood to chat to afterwards. Have always been a big fan, and their latest album maintains their high standard. Awesome.

Forgot to mention Vanishing Point who are still a fucking amazing band with some incredible songs under their belt.
If you don't believe me check out Season of Sundays & Once a Believer from their album Embrace the Silence. :headbang:

Embrace the Silence and Tangled in Thought are both very solid from start to finish.
Season of Sundays is :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
And I am a big fan of the balads on that album too (Embraced and Breathe and As I Reflect).

I wasn't as much a fan of the follow up album The Fourth Season... There were some pretty cool songs but it sounded a bit different to me for some reason.
Gaia/I Within I was rad. And I liked the single Surrender... But to me, it kinda sounded like a different band as the songs were much shorter and more focused on the power metal side.

Obvisouly for me, Arcanes Chronicles of the Waking Dream goes without saying.
My favourite Aussie album of all time.

And Chisel... You can never have enough Cold Chisel in your life.

Yeah, Dreadnaught! :headbang:

I don't get out much these days, so kinda just listen to the bands I've been into for a while. Vanishing Point, Lord and a handful of others. Hmmmm.

Be'lakor sound good though, based on those songs.

I cannot understand how these guys don't get bigger crowds. They are awesome.
