The Beatles and Opeth

I don't buy the connection. The two passages are vaguely related in tonal character, and they use a similar syncopation but it's a one-measure pattern. There are only so many beats you can lay down in one bar and EVENTUALLY two people are going to use approximately similar rythms. Nothing to write home about.

Well, I've heard people mention the Porcupine Tree references - I listen to them but I didn't have that in mind. I got the drum beat from Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles and the riff, there was a couple of notes from an album by Marie Fredriksson, the female singer in Roxette. I didn't expect the guys to like it but they did - it's Indian sounding, and I wanted it to sound like '60s psychedelic, so there was no real Porcupine Tree influence, even though in the back of mind I guess I'm always influenced by them.
